time for you to go to the retirement home.
it's was a simple observation that they were worried about potential damage to his neck/back and standard precautions were taken to avoid potential further injury to his spinal cord.

- MaximusAurelius

Thats standard protocol once they bring out the board

Yes max that's called first aid, whenever there is the slightest potential for a neck/back injury you ensure you don't further hurt the individual treating them.

That's how you deal with anyone who has that potential ever, from a potential paraplegic to someone with a bruise. It's the same protocol.

It doesn't mean his (frank)ing career might be over. 🤦‍♂️

people we're contemplating whether he could play next game - and then mentioning he woudl be out 4 days at least due to covid measures.
seems quite clear that this is going to take longer than just 4 days.
he has a history of bad back injuries - so really not looking that good.
let's hope he'll be ok.

I highly doubt that Columbus doesnt have a much stronger and aggressive game next time out.

It can't be any worse.

Dunno, havent heard anything about his condition.
But to assume he would be gone several months or potentially ending is career is foolish. Thats what people took exception to.

so youre saying Cbus played worst game possible. ANd some have said that TO played perfect game...and that led to 2-0 win. Its a long way from over

We've seen the leafs do these one off games where everyone plays well, they have a good defensive game etc.
But their archilles heel is doing it consistently...or even over a couple of games.
We'll see how they respond in game 3....do they sit back...or attack like they did in Game 2?

I said timelines on him to get back would be estimated 6months, best case scenario 2-3 months and worst case he's finished his hockey career.
in any case, most important thing is that he recovers his full health - secondary is his hockey career.

Excerpt from the Reddit article you linked to (in the previous thread):

"In general, medical staff do not mess around with necks, if there's even a 0.1% chance that you can't completely rule out a spinal injury, you board and go. I've had to board athletes where I was really confident they were okay but even with 1 sliver of doubt or a weird symptom - you take the pre-cautions.

From what I can see on the replays, there doesn't seem like nearly enough force for a significant injury and there was an abundance of caution but you never really know. Like all of you, I'm praying for good news in the next few days."

That seems to support the obvious caution the Leafs medical staff were taking but also floats the theory that the potential injury suffered by Muzzin may not be all that serious.

Goaltending has been great for Columbus. Its what's kept the Jackets in the series for the most part. When the shots are like 23 - 8 early/midway
through the 2nd period, and the score is 0 - 0 that's a goalie standing in his head.

But agree , the series is far from over.

Max diagnosed him from staring at his computer screen last night.

Leafs should keep attacking. Columbus has no answer for it. No one on Columbus is making any Leaf pay a price and you can tell guys like Matthews and Tavares are taking advantage of it.

I'd put Sandin in the lineup over Marincin. Marincin can singlehandedly cost the Leafs a game. Outside of Jones and Werenski, Columbus is very average. Pop gun offense, they don't hit and the Leafs are matching them defensively. Columbus outhustled them in game 1 but it was all Leafs in game 2.

Columbus will be better than they were yesterday but the Leafs could rally around losing Muzzin. It'll force guys like Rielly and Dermott to step up plus the forwards will likely help out more. Freddy has his A game going. I don't expect Korpisalo to keep up his current level of play.

Max could end this whole thing by saying he has made silly, speculative statements on the Muzzin injury and he (like the rest of us) doesn't know the extent.

But he won't. He will just keep doubling down.

it will be Marincin. He kills penalties. Sandin just gets tossed around.

Probably. Most head coaches will go with the vet over the rookie. I think it's a mistake. Columbus doesn't hit anyone. Leafs have the puck 75% of the time.

The Leafs are the better team.

It is their series to lose. If they put in the effort they did yesterday they will win. If not, then the organization needs to answer questions about why they aren't working hard enough.

The Muzzin injury just looked like a fluky play. Nothing particularly dirty or intentional.

The officiating will always be a joke until the league changes the culture of officiating. As someone said earlier in a previous reply, penalties in the NHL are never black and white. It's subjective. In baseball, a strike is a strike, regardless of whether or not the player in question is a Richard. Offsides is offsides in football - every time. Not so in the NHL. Is that an illegal obstruction or just following through on a check? Is that a cross-check or just clearing the crease? No consistency and it breeds an atmosphere of uncertainty which leads to more injuries.

Muzzin going down is almost a worst-case scenario, along with Rielly perhaps. Why couldn't it have been Ceci? That's the real question.

I haven't seen many hits from either side. The only one I remember is the one Clifford made in the first period yesterday. A no hitting series clearly favours the Leafs.

TSN article last night said the covid protocols don't even guarantee 4 days. The hub coordinators review each emergency situation independently and make a decision based on possible exposure, etc.

He could be done for the year or back next game... Or anything in between.
