I was actually going to dovetail a similar comment in my comments - from my recollection his real strength is being long and having a long stick and being decent and blocking passes out from behind the net. He's not overly mobile. He's not overly smart. He's not adept with the puck, certainly not where he makes quick and effective bumper passes to the open guy for the clear. But I am spouting the reputation he has. Someone with more data than me and my wonky eyes has to know something!

Hell, I don't even know what my daughters' hockey looks like.

I can't see the province allowing spectators until there is a vaccine.

Players won't agree to a bubble for regular season (nor should they), so you'll see team breakouts from time to time, and delayed games.

In short, it's going to be a poopshow.

My only optimism is soccer. They seem to be figuring out how to make it work as best as they can. Maybe it's as simple as that - hockey teams can travel, get tested a lot, and play in empty, or almost empty, arenas.

Pretty much good with everything right up to bukkake. Bukkake is where I draw the line.

It's already is a poopshow, we are only dealing with the first wave. The vaccine is still not in the picture. Excellent therepeutics are much more imminent and important at this point.

It's nutty. I mean the Oxford University vaccine is the hook we're hanging our hat on here. Even if it's mass produced, I don't think the administration of it will really take the requisite effect until . . . mid-2021 optimistically?

As we learn more and find out more, maybe we can prevent more. Honestly, I think the cost of huge filtration devices and forced airflow would help many of these places, but the Cardinals outbreak was from a couple of guys going to a casino. The Marlins outbreak was from 3 or 4 guys going to a nightclub . . . (I say this with my dearth of 0 medical credentials)

Ultimately, you're right. This is going to keep happening.

Kids junior A league just told him the other day that they're looking at starting season October 1st, latest January 1st. Waiting on approval from the provincial government.

Don't believe their plan has much for precautions, he did mention that everyone may have to wear fish bowls.

- joel878

If Hockey Canada or provinces mandate this, there's no way in hell that there will be enough supply to outfit every kid in Ontario/Canada.

Some variation of the bubble could work. Four or five bubbles at a time to play 20-30 games, rotating to get a season in. The virus is too unpredictable and they can shift or reduce bubble locations as required.

Nice game boys

Leafs outskated and outworked them, had the puck all game

I think some decent forwards will sign here to play on the bottom 6 and fill out the 2PP.

Thornton, Galchenyuk, Frolik, Namestikov, Wilson.

Boyle? He can play 3C for cheap.

- Santo_44

Joe Thornton would be a good cheap signing for the Leafs.

Agreed. The only other thing I heard him say was Plexiglass between locker stalls. Because he was talking about how stupid that would be when they all walk out of the room and sit on the bench together.

But apparently the league feels good about their plan being a go, with the logic being the Ford government approved the Jay's plan, why wouldn't they approve a plan that doesn't have Americans crossing the border daily.

One other thing is the presence of fast and reliable testing. The one that they're using in MLB is fast, but it's not particularly reliable. If this 15 minute test can get a bit more accurate (last I read it was something like 84%, throwing no false positives), something like that would let things start to move forward again.

I'm guessing the NHL can break even with a no-spectator league. With escrow, it's doable.

No way in hell the AHL can have a season without spectators.

So what are we going to do there? Allow NHL non-cap rosters of an additional few players as a taxi squad?

If you're a career AHLer without a contract, your career is over.

very hyped up, but a very mediocre candidate.
wouldn't take this vaccine personally.
reality is, wise people should be very cautious taking vaccines that are rushed through development. first of all since it's not clear what protection over 3-6 months would be, and second since there might be some safety issues.

I may be the outlier here, but I don't like it.

Defenseman need to be afforded the opportunity to find consistency in their partner, especially during playoffs when the game happens faster and they need to rely on reactionary plays more so than during the regular season.

Sandin to raw, marincin to poop. Just put Rosen on the bottom pair with Barrie.

Throw the defenseman into disarray along with altering forward lines out of this isn't a good move IMO.

- joel878

It's a temporary fix until Muzzin can return to the lineup.

At this point, Rosen is no more a viable option to play consistent minutes than Marty or Sandin. 3rd pairing by committee just makes sense until they can plug the leak.

The ancillary benefit of 7 d-men is that you have an excuse to give your premium forwards a chance to take some extra shifts that will throw the Jones-Werenski matchup in disarray.

Thornton got 6 more points than Spezza, with five extra minutes of icetime a game.

I'll take Spezza over Thornton, and I won't take both.

They invented a spinal fracture vaccine last night, and Muzzin seemed to respond well to it.

I'd take both, We'll need to fill out that 2nd PP next year and Spezza is the best PP player on that unit as we stand today.
