Yes. They do. They have 0 contracts they can';t move. Majority of NHl teams are also at the cap max.
And they 4 contracst only kicked-in this year yet they had even better statistical depth. It's not that at all. - RogerRoeper
Teams know the situation the leafs are in (along with a couple other teams).
No trading partner is going to give the leafs full value right now.
Leafs up 3-0 on your "bottom feeder", the 3rd worst defensive team in the league and they score 4 unanswered goals.

Since the majority of the NHL is it the same situation I guess you feel the same about all the other organizations at or near the cap max? What will happen to the teams that will need to actually cut payroll? Will they have that issue? |

First, there are not many teams that are positioned to take advantage of Marner being made available. Leading contenders would be the usual suspects including Detroit, New Jersey and Ottawa in the East. LA and Anaheim in the West. I don't see any of them wanting to impose an $11m hit over top of their salary structure.
Nylander makes a lot more sense. Kapanen even more for a rebuilding team. - spatso
you really need a consult.
i do mental ilness checks as well.
(for you it's not a question about yes/no, but which mental illnesses you are suffering from_ |

Pesce is not the answer at all. That would not be a wise move. - RogerRoeper
I don't watch a lot of Canes games but I think the 411 is that he's a very good top4 RHD. Young, skates well, big body, excellent in the D zone and all of that for 4 million for the next 4 years.
Canes still look like one of the few teams with depth on D to move. |

Forget about "Cap", Ottawa is broke and can't afford him. You are only going by cap space. Lots of pieces will be moved in the NHL this offseason. |

Ok, so in your opinion it's about cap space. So every player earning more than 9/10 million per year is worth a mid to late first, gotcha. |

It's impossible to talk about future cap space as COVID 19 will force some teams to cut payroll and move some players.
Leafs paying vast majority of Nylander's deal in massive bonuses works in their favour. (EXACTLY what teams like Coyotees and Panthers will look for). |

Theres about 5 or so teams in the leafs situation.
Sure other teams may need to trim a little fat, but the lesfs have a D issue, it needs to be addressed.
Holl played way too much last night
Its gonna be tough
But we'll see |

Complete bullpoop. And there's teams that need to move players that can't because they can't trade them. Leaf are simply not in that position. AND again, we don't even know who will cut payroll. You think every team has the $$$ to stay at the same cap # after this mess? |

seems like one of the most obvious targets for Leafs D would be Dante Fabbro.
Any idea who/what Leafs would need to give up?

I think the Leafs are in better shape than other teams. This is a unique hit that teams are going to need to take. Nobody anticipated the cap going down for multiple years at the same time as the Seattle protection lists needed to be filled in.
I believe the Leafs are in better shape than many teams. They are going to take a hit...but, we knew that from the day the Seattle expansion was announced.
Maybe a deal with Seattle will help the Leafs move out salary.

I'll bite.
Which teams are going to have to save cash and sell players ...presumably on the cheap?
And if that's going to be a meaningful thing this offseason then doesn't that de-value all players on the trade market? Meaning trading a WN would be a bad idea right now. |

Yep. And Nylander will have so many teams wanting him. Again, his actual $$$ owed is so low now that'll increase his trade value. The argument about getting lowballed is fine as long as only 1 team is intereted. That will never be the case with either player.
Leaf players are worth as much as players on any other team. |
