Trade him.

The deal for Brodie/Jankowski for Kadri may have been a better deal...in hindsight. - senstroll
Brodie alone was the better player to gain rather than Kerfoot or Barrie. The Janitor is a 4C tops. |

My one takeaway from yesterday, outside of constant self loathing and disappointment that comes with being a leaf fan, is Matthews' one-timer from right side is somethin'
I don't know if it was my broadcast or what but I heard the post before it looked like he made contact |

They competed, they just were getting outplayed by the leafs and had some bad bounces (goal off jones).
Leafs were great the 1st period.
Columbus stepped up in the 3rd and the leafs had no answer. - Fakepartofme
kefoot made some good plays the 1st half of the game.
was on the ice for all 3 columbus goals in regulation. |

Kadri said no, so Leafs never had a shot at that deal. |

True but handful not far behind but not so dire. |

its just an odd way to look at game...I get it..we are leaf fans
in the 1st it was 17-5 Leafs in scoring chances and 7-1 in high danger.
but we still say Columbus competed.
If that was the other way, we would say the Leafs did not compete.
the 3rd was not nearly as lopsided, in regards to scoring chances (7-9 and 2-3) - senstroll
3-0 up until mid 2nd period in a playoff game - and still losing shows that there is something wrong with the built of a team and/or coaching. |

Um ok.
The leafs were all over them in the 1st. But its not like Columbus was floating around, giving up on pucks, making lazy plays or sitting back (you know, things weve seen from the leafs often).
They competed, but leafs were flying and outmatched them.
So its not that strange.
On to next game. |

A late first for MM?
What would Eichel or Panarin or Rantanen fetch in a trade? - The Law
A young 1C has big value. Panarin contract is a problem. Rantanen is a total stud. |

Initially my reaction was that I was glad Kadri nixed the Flames deal, I saw Jank as a huge downgrade to Kadri and the Leafs had no replacement.
Once I heard the Col deal I was liked it much better, Kerfoot is closer to Kadri/3rd line C and Barrie was a decent upgrade on what the Leafs had as RHD at the time (almost nothing)
Seeing how Barrie plays D, well its not great and cost the team the game last night imo.

is marner worth $10 mill ? discuss... - CarlitoBrigante
The trouble with the Marner contract for some of the other teams is that it becomes the benchmark for what they may need to pay their top players in the near future. Does a team like New Jersey want that kind of number as their top contract when they have a bunch of really talented prospects just beginning to emerge?
I think this is the reason that Nylander or Kapanen are so much easier to move.

how does moving one of the only players you have signed to an actual good contract help the team out of their cap problems |

I doubt it.
So far, Dubas has been very reluctant to make any big changes (apart from obvious things like signing Tavares - but that was a no-brainer).
it took him over a year to address the goalie issue.
over 2 years do not do anything real about the D-issue. |

Kapanen/Kerfoot/Jonsson are too much of the same. You can move 2 of those and obtain nice cap space.
You can't base players only on cap hits.

meh, St Louis was leading going into the 3rd period yesterday and lost 6-4
Leafs need a horse on D, probably a couple who can play some shut down mins (would have been Muzzin).
Rielly sucks and Barrie is worse...on D

Dubas hasn't even completed his 2nd season as GM...It's way too early to complain about him not doing things fast enough. he's madea lot of moves.
Have you seen how slow things move in Winnipeg?
