Now you are just contradicting your own posts. YOU were the one saying because of these last 3 games McDavid shouldn't fetch anymore than Marner. YOU brought up this play-in series. I agreed with your original sentiment that this play-in is no basis of what a team does going forward....but i DID question your use of Marner vs McDavid because both teams down 1-2 making their trade value similar. McDavid has been outstanding in his 3 games...the rest of the Oiler team, not so much. Marner has been not close to delivering like an 11 million player. He has been non-existant and a non-contributor through 3 games. So, just thought the comparison was weak and way off target. - hawk35
I was being sarcastic
I thought it was pretty obvious with the way I was responding to the post |

Maybe a team can do the Leafs a favour and take Matthews.

You can't be serious using taht as an example. Bergeron got as much as he could at the time and his cap % was higher than Marner's. Marner had 94 points prior to signing his deal.
Marchand's deal look great too eh? He had worse stats than Nylander when he signed his deal...
Same with the laughable notion Mackinon took a "Discount". He got every penny he could. He was a 60 point forward. - RogerRoeper
Hmmm
Bergeron Mackinnon Marchand for the price of JT & Marner with change left over?
Players who want to win or greed?
Team players or me players?
Tough choices |

Who is this guy? Marner is neither.
You seriously overvalue Marner, Matthews is a different story. - golfingsince
Unfortunately Marner has yet to show anything to disprove the notion that his peak is at supporting cast. Ala, Kessel... With more heart and an actual personality.
I would like him to show us that he has more than that. That he can be a driving force with the chips down and change an outcome. It hasn't happened yet. |

Don’t be that guy. 95 points is 100. The guy will fluctuate over his career and will hit 100 points and 90 points.
And I don’t but thanks for telling me. - Santo_44
We call this the Phil Kessel 50 goal scorer argument.....still waiting. |

All those players signed their contracts before they got to the level they are at today.
Don’t try to pretend that these players signed contracts when they were hart finalists. |

First of all, Bergeron is 35 and clearly regressing. Marchand is very close to the age we will see a regression soon.
You have to take into account when these deals were signed. Heck, just look at the perceived difference in Nylander's deal in the past 12 months. Or Drais in the past 2 years...

37 goals to 50 goals is a little different than 95 to 100 points.
But whatever dude, I don’t really care. |

Young D-men that are good:
McAvoy
Ekblad
Provorov
Heiskanen
Seth Jones
Dahlin
Q. Hughes
Makar
Chabot
Sergachev
Dobson
Girard
Fabbro
not reallly sure any of these guys could actually be had.. Leafs are in a really tough position.
Have to look at Nylander to make an upgrade on D.
Rielly and Sandin seem the only 'sure to be there D' next season D-players on this team (+Muzzin if he rises from the land of the dead)

Why does it have to be that list that's traded for? I don't think they are even on the market except mayby Ekblad.

Marner was used at his strengths under Babcock.
Keefe doesn't seem to get the best out of him.
Change the coach and GM. - MaximusAurelius
Under Babcock this year, Marner averaged .2222 goals per game, .77777 assists per game, and 1 point per game.
Under Keefe this year, Marner averaged .2927 goals per game, .9024 assists per game, and 1.195 points per game.
