But you think Nylander is worth a mid to late first, right?
- RogerRoeper

Yes I think New Jersey would give up a 1st round pick for Nylander. I believe the Sens would also offer up a mid 1st round pick for Nylander. I think multiple teams would offer up a 2nd round pick for Kapanen.

meh, St Louis was leading going into the 3rd period yesterday and lost 6-4

Leafs need a horse on D, probably a couple who can play some shut down mins (would have been Muzzin).

Rielly sucks and Barrie is worse...on D

Blues would have missed the playoffs last year if not for their rookie goalie saving them and delivering a cup. If they don't get that goaltending there's no big playoff run. they are not that good.

I doubt it.
So far, Dubas has been very reluctant to make any big changes (apart from obvious things like signing Tavares - but that was a no-brainer).
it took him over a year to address the goalie issue.
over 2 years do not do anything real about the D-issue.

- MaximusAurelius

Why do people keep forgetting Dubas brought in Muzzin? He needs to add at least 1 more (preferably 2) top-4 D who can play great defensively. If the defence is roughly the same going into next year, I’ll be pissed.

In his 1st season as GM Dubas traded for MUzzin and it's looking like a great trade. He also signed him. Haters need to stop pretending it did not happen

doesnt seem like that to me, Trading Kadri is huge...and was very very risky. also muzzin

he doesnt panic or make moves just because, but a bad loss and I can see more moves coming

Dermott ended up logging 25 minutes in a game that stretched deep into overtime. Over the 18-plus minutes he shared the ice with Holl, the Leafs were slightly outchanced (11-13) and more importantly, outscored (0-2). Look into their limited minutes against the Jackets’ top line of Dubois, Cam Atkinson and Alexandre Texier and it’s messy: shot attempts were 13-4 in Columbus’ favour and scoring chances were 5-1.

“I thought that as a team we didn’t help our defence as a group, and as a group our defence didn’t help themselves,” Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said when asked about Dermott’s performance.

On the Jones goal, for instance, Alexander Kerfoot slings the puck along the boards to what he thought would be a winger waiting for it. Only there’s no one there.

Pretty telling from statement from Keefe and some overmatched Minutes for Dermott along with a odd play and boom OT loss.

happy to be wrong, but I dont think Dermott is more than a 3rd pairing player.

A young 1C has big value. Panarin contract is a problem. Rantanen is a total stud.
- Nighthawk

YOu've missed his point. No Cap space = no value for any of these guys.

In fairness, he looked great with Muzzin/Rielly out this season. But he's been so sheltered for 3 years it's hard to determine what he is.

I did say that. I did not think he was the type Muzzin will sign. How does that attempted distraction mean anything about the point Dubas haters pretend the trade wasn't made?

Other than the Marner contract, Dubas is doing fine. And, he did not have great flexibility in the Marner negotiations. I actually think Dubas does not need to do much in the short term leading up to next season.

Long term, I think Marner will be gone. But, not until next year when Dubas leverages a deal with Seattle which will be flush with asset opportunities and needing a name player going into their first season.

Ok, so in your opinion it's about cap space. So every player earning more than 9/10 million per year is worth a mid to late first, gotcha.
- The Law

Worth is irrelevant it’s what the market will pay & who can. Called DEMAND in a buyers market. Flat cap has only exacerbated the difficulty & the looming e-draft even more so.

he is 23 and has 175 NHL games, maybe not enough to paint him in a corner yet..but when asked to step up, he is pretty disappointing.

I think he needs to be sheltered a bit to be useful

These reactions are so passionate win or lose. If Leafs win tonight people will change their tune.

He won't command a big deal so it's worth it to keep him imo. But at the same time, there will be alot of players available we don't anticipate right now.

Leafs needed to trade Marner instead of signing him to that insane contract, and instead tried to acquire a defenseman who could take pressure off of Rielly to be "the guy" because he's not.

in this scenario, are most of the players all still signed to bad overpriced contracts?
