His advanced stats continue to be strong, and that's even after being paired with the black hole that is Jack Johnson for a stretch of games this year. - kingcong39
I respect that.
In a vacuum, I could sign up for Letang for 2 years.
However, as you pointed out, the acquisition cost is likely to be in the high->very high range.
If they are trading for him with premium assets, I would want more than a 2 year commitment.
Couple that with a high CapHit currently, along with new contracts needed soon for Joker and Dahlin and that backline becomes crazy expensive.
I don't think they can afford him.
He'd immediately be the best defenseman on the team. - kingcong39
Than I retract my statement based on Pittsburgh homers. But! You’d still have to move concussed Larry to make it work. And the there is the question of what Pittsburgh needs, which I think is top 6 wing help, 3rd line help and 3rd pairing d help...

It would all depend on the bold above regarding how much or how little interest they would have in trading for Letang, but let's not kid ourselves. He would immediately be the Sabres best defenseman, and the best defenseman the team has had in some time.

You would not need to move Okposo to get it done. That's a myth.
You would need to move Ristolainen and Montour. Maybe even Miller too if you are a full believer in Jokiharju.

Fun debate, but I disagree again,
The bolded is one side of the economic equation, you must also factor in the high Cap hit now, the higher cost in year 3 or the loss of the asset.
Too rich for my blood especially in view of the severe need at 2C, 2RW, 3C, 3RW and at 2LhD.
Money better spent elsewhere.

So we move all 3 and have nothing for a center or wing

Letang - $7.25.
Risto - $5.4
Monte -$3.3 (but rfa, will go up)
Total - $8.7
Which puts ...
Dahlin Letang
McCabe Joker
??? Miller
I do see where you are covering the salary, but you do still need to fill...
LD spot
2c
2RW
re-up joker and Dahlin with Letang still on the books. And of course I haven’t figured in the Larry’s...
For the long term, non-handcuffing of the team, ability to sign joker and Dahlin. If you bring in Letang, concussed Larry’s money should be freed up.
And you still have the compensation going to Pittsburgh for a 33 year old d Man with a m-ntc, nmc...
Even if he’d be the best d man in the team, does he really make sense for them at this point?
I don’t like it, but then again I expect bjustead to be on the roster...

Was just watching a classic episode of The Office (wait, aren't they all classics ?) on Comedy Central, the episode "Gay Witch Hunt" where Michael outs Oscar. They've started censoring episodes now ! In the beginning of the episode where Toby talks to Michael after Michael calls Oscar "f@ggy" ... they censored it out ! (censored myself there). He says the word a few times, and each time they didn't bleep it, they just silenced that portion. Even the closed captioning said ***** .
