You must not be part of one

I am, and of course we have our lousy employees like anywhere else.

The company I work for is a multinational corporation and my particular facility nets 70-80 million in profit a year. This is the type of company that should be known for taking care of its employees, but instead..

I became the first hire in a new contract where new hires no longer receive pensions. I have mediocre healthcare, poop dental but a decent 401k match. Absolutely no kickbacks otherwise, we dont even have a christmas party. Gain sharing is a thing of the past despite setting sales and profit records the past 2 years. Swimming in useless overhead and corporate dog and pony shows. Cant get proper tooling for the workers. Continually outsourcing machine work despite not saving money doing so. There used to be a gentlemans agreement not to outsource without the machine shop being on mandatory overtime, that is also a thing of the past. Poor management practices which strangle our ability to do the job in order to secure bonuses for themselves. The list goes on

Do you really believe if there was no union in this shop that they wouldnt slash every possible corner and wages to increase profits even more? And do you believe that is right?

70-80 MILLION in net profit a year

Ideally you want management and workers to have equal power. Unions mainly accomplish that, not always, sometimes, it seems in your case, they're not quite powerful enough, and other times, like with some teachers unions, they're too powerful, but don't use their power wisely, namely to get their members more pay. Instead they use it to protect substandard members, and make it nigh impossible to fire them, even for cause. So they just do the Catholic shuffle, moving bad teachers around.

Like everything in life, it's gray. I have many teachers in my family. One district wanted the teachers to sanitize their rooms on the off day of a proposed hybrid schedule because they did the sanitizing at the beginning when no one knew wtf they were doing. That's bullpoop, and they nipped it in the bud.

Almost as if the further management becomes from the workers the less like people they treat them.

Way too many variables with the development and/or continued development of Dahlin, Olofsson, Cozens, Mitts, Tage... Coupled with being way too weak down the middle and mediocre, at best in net. With a horrid pk, a coach with a 49-53 all time nhl record, a rookie gm, a handsy owner, with a new and improved “lean” model... yeah we are franked.

Very true, Unions cave in nowadays, they don't stand up like they used too.

This country does not value the education of the working class.

That's why those with real money send their children to prestigious private schools. Because if anything screams Democracy, Bidding like Vultures at an Ebay Auction we've decided it would Benefit our citizens to Privatize and Compete for

Healthcare and Education

Any Country in the World is only as Great as the least of their citizens.
