Match ups aren’t an exact science. I’m sure JvR have shared the same ice many times within their careers.
- SuperSchennBros

I agree they can be mixed up. But you said it with such MJL-esque authority. All that was missing was 'its as simple as that"

To the best of my knowledge, wingers are responsible for back-checking the attacking player on their side of the ice. If the forwards are the ones going up the ice, then JVR is the one who covers Kucherov.

If that fails and the other team has possession in our zone, then winger stays high and covers the D-man on their side (the points).

I think the point is that JVR would be a defensive liability against that level of players. Would almost be like playing 2 against 3. Better bet would be to utilize him net front on PP.
- Letterkenney

I think the most important thing right now is to get JvR on the top PP unit.

Flyers need to win tomorrow and the Habs to win today or tomorrow. Only way to play them is to be the top seed.
- mickel25

Wow I misunderstood this playoff bracket entirely unless I looked up an outdated one. It has this format:

1st seed plays winner between TOR/CLB
2nd seed plays winner between NYI/FLA
3rd seed plays winner between NYR/CAR
4th seed plays winner between PIT/MTL

I don’t know. It’s a great argument but Jagr was maybe one of the worst backchecking wingers I’ve ever seen. I guess I don’t put much thought into it.

No worries. I am far from a hockey savant. You startled me, and I did peek at a couple of sites to make sure I was right before posting.

This is incorrect. The highest available seed will play the lowest available seed as it once was in times past when things made more sense.

why cant they set the game times yet? i assume they are waiting to see what happens with the elimination games? still it would be nice to have 24 hrs notice so players and fans can get schedule set.
i think joel scores a goal tonight on first line. maybe jvr will skate a little too. looking forward to seeing oskar in toronto, as he is practicing with his old team in sweeden now. building up to nhl pace i assume.

They’ve got where they are this season with no contribution from Patrick and already dealt with Raffl and Lindblom being out of the lineup and were fine. We’ll see what’s going on with Jake.

Would you rather be in the Jets position and have no Scheifele or Liane?

- hereticpride

Some fans are already back in mid-season form.

The only problem is, Couturier line is also our checking line. They will go up against the Palat-Point-Kucherov line.

Imagine JVR checking Kucherov!!

- PT21

It's the playoffs. Most good teams including the Lightning have more than one good line. If you want to go on a playoff run, you need all 4 lines to be able to play well at both ends of the ice.

Your knowledge is flawed. This isn't the 70's where RW stay on that side of the ice and skate up and down the wing. Modern day hockey systems are fluid and who is the first back checker back will depend on the flow of play and where each player was on the forecheck on an opposition breakout. There is a lot of available information on the internet on hockey systems. Might want to invest some time. May I suggest starting with neutral zone checking systems as a basic start. Then a good idea would be to research Vigneault's puck pressure overload systems.

Did I say that with enough authority?

I just googled “NHL 2020 Playoff bracket” and went to images. There’s two brackets that have the seeding I listed

Yotes have the unfair advantage of playing to empty arena’s for years.

Preds have really underwhelmed. I thought they were gonna be set up to run the West for a bit.

That “in-arena” service from Tata was hot garbage. They billed it as a live feed of the game. You know, with cameras. I know Tata is out of touch but I wasn’t expecting it to be that poor of a job. Anyways, NBCSN did their normal great job and the boys look like they’re having fun out there and HUSTLING!

I have honestly no idea what you are talking about.

This technology will deliver Flyers in-arena content to simulate the experience of being at the arena for the playoffs.

I assume that means they'll have someone yelling "shoooooooooot!!!" and "hIt SuMBudYyYyYy!!!!!" in your ear all game.

Seems lame.

I agree with Boyer83. I tried it at the start of the Third Period yesterday. I think I stuck with it for about five minutes before I turned it off. It would appeal to the stats nerds, but I found it too distracting from watching the actual game play.

It would have been nice it was more audio oriented, such as including the Flyers regular broadcasting team of Jackson, Clemente, and Taryn Hatcher (Jones is doing full duty for NBCSN), since the out-of-market viewers are only getting the national broadcast teams. It would also be nice to hear Lou Nolan simulating the in-arena announcements (I don't recall a PP happening when I went on, so this may be the case).

On the plus side, Andrea Helfrich has made some appearances. And I believe Lauren Hart is doing the national anthems.

Since they are using YT for the live stream, the last two games are still up on the Flyers YT channel:
