If you get the number one... you don't trade it IMO. - Tyler Cameron
This.
(Then you hope Lafreniere is a McDavid or MacKinnon type and not a Yakupov type.) |

Listen, I like Strome for what he is right now and I think he can get better.
He's still just 23 years old.
However, the Hawks can play hard ball a bit now with the emergence of Dach.
Personally, I would sign him to a 2-year deal... no more than that because then he and Dach come up at the same time.
If you can convince Strome to take a 2 year, 3M AAV deal, you do it. I just think as much as Strome likes it in CHI with his bestie DeBrincat, his agent won't let him make a deal like that.
I suspect they are looking for $4M+ AAV. - Tyler Cameron
I agree if your going to not give up on him you cant resign him to anything more than 3.5 million tops.
But do not include nmc in his contract.
We should expect some serious changes to their teams makeup come next year.
Maatta
Shaw
Seabrook
Slater
Drake
Nylander
Crawford
Saad
That's my list of players that you either trade or don't resign. |

I'm a believer that if you try to control destiny things have a tendency to backfire on you. Play to win, if you win this series great if you don't, have a chance at picking 1st or in the top 3rd of the league. Many wanted them to tank last year and they played well and ended up with the 3rd pick in the draft, so play to win baby, even though i didn't think they deserved to win game 3, i cheered every time i saw the back of the net move in the 3rd period. - BetweenTheDots

Dylan Strome is only 23. He has played 164 games in the NHL. .
Can you think of other Hawk or former Hawk forwards that showed dramatic improvement after playing 164 games in the NHL. There are not many. Danault comes to mind and he is in reality a 2C/3C 50 point player on a good team (like Strome). Danault is on a 3 year deal at $3.1 mil. I think that is about right for Strome.
I am ok with holding on to Nylander and re-upping Strome. But I think they pretty much are what they are going to be. So I would not over value either of them. |

Yakupov was a one-trick pony. Lafreniere has the whole toolbox.

We out-lasted 3 teams, at least!!!!!!! - hawk35

Call me a heretic but I'd be happier seeing Strome and Nylander score goals than seeing the Hawks win the game. I know it won't silence the critics for long, but a momentary respite would be nice. |

As far as Strome is concerned, Artem Anisimov has made a pretty decent living being a slow footed centerman that has difficulty winning face offs.
Also with the Isle moving on, their 1st RD pick goes to Ottawa for the Pageau trade. OTT now has 3 - 1st round picks in 2020. |

McCann predicted the Hawks would be swept. Thus proving yet again, that McCann can suck it. |

As for whether to get a top 10 draft pick or get swagger back by succeeding in the post season, I prefer the latter.
For one thing, I will always cheer for the Blackhawks to win no matter what.
Another thing is the 1st round is still pretty deep in the teens and 20s if the Hawks drop that far. I wouldn't mind Zary or Amirov at all.
One way to look at is whether it's better to have an elite prospect + a mini boost in team swagger or a really good prospect + a huge boost in team swagger?
Again, I prefer the latter. - AEL_Fox

It's the Isle's pick so as far as they go. 17-31 I'd guess. |

Not rooting against them, however.....
Landing the #1 then:
1. Trading it to Ott for 3 @5....
2. Trading it to Ott for 3 and Tkachuk....
3. Trading it to Ott for 5 and Tkachuk....
#1 overall would get 2 pieces for this current group...... - mike7076
Except Ottawa isn't doing any of those and you would be passing up the best player in this draft at a position of need.
Now if the Kings wanted to throw another pick to move up for Lefreniere, Byfield is a nice consolation prize and would give the Hawks some serious size down the middle. |

Is Strome the new Anisimov? Kinda feels that way, right? - Chief4Feathers
Nope. AA is far better defensively. Strome is better offensively and AA can skate circles around Strome. |
