So does the NHL look worse admitting it was stupid to have the draft before the playoffs were set and just redo the whole thing or by giving another superstar to Toronto, Edmonton, or Pittsburgh?

Looks like the Pens got what they wanted.

Bettman told Cindy to tank so they would get Laff.

Taylor Hall is merely a "nice asset" but "nothing extraordinary"?

Hall is a really good player, but he's not generational, a term thrown around way too much. Heck, I'd make an argument that Tyler is better than Taylor...

We already have Sam Lafferty so that doesn't make any sense.

Somewhat? Man, they hype a generational talent every year, and that’s not what generational means at all.

The last two I bought into were McDavid and Crosby, and those two delivered for their teams (unfortunately for me, in regards to the latter)

I’m with you that he could be that level under them, but man, to me that’s a really clear line.

The “generational talent” thing is really losing its edge. What will the new term be when the phrase has lost all value?

- Hesh_

That's true. They hype a generational talent every year. I remember when the Hawks drafted Byfuglien , they were so surprised how he fell so far with all the hype. In all fairness everyone said Hischier was going to be like the next generation of greats, I mean all time legends. So much generational hype going around lol. The next phrase is God-like. Then after that, it will simply be God

I didn’t feel like Hischier got that treatment. In fact, Patrick was believed to be the pick of that draft, and New Jersey (rightfully so) went somewhat against the grain.

That draft was one that didn’t have much hype. It was thought to be a total guessing game after Hischier and Patrick. Pettersson and Makar turned out to be the real stars, with Heiskanen just behind. Suzuki looks nice. A few others have potential (I hope Frost), but nobody “generational”, that’s for sure.

I believe Ek has a valid point here. The Habs winning this series will help with the recruitment of FA's and unsigned amateurs. With colleges not willing to play this year there could be a flood of these players coming to the pros this year and a winning team definitely will have an advantage in signing them! Columbus, will have a similar bump even if they lose their series, because of the competitiveness of their system.

The something obviously wrong with the Penguins is itself very obvious. Jack Johnson and the coach's decision to keep him in the lineup.

"All due respect even if they lost out on lafreniere they would still get 8th overall which is really damn good in this draft. Now they will likely be 15th and maybe they get a steal there but it’s still not a top 10 pick.

I’ll eat my hat if they make it into the next round but if they get spanked all I would say is that no one likes mediocrity. As a flames fan I would know"

Actually they would of gotten 9th overall if they lost, now they will get 16th overall if they lose. With the difference from 9th to 16th being negligible in a deep draft, it's far more valuable as an organization to have their young team grow from the experience of winning in the playoffs!

Thanks for the correction on the slotting, I forgot that the lottery winner would have jumped them. They would still be 15 though because they will be the worst team in the playoffs.

Even then there’s a major drop off at 10 to 12. At the 9 slot potentially 1 or 2 of perfetti, holtz, Raymond, Rossi, Jarvis or Quinn could be available. Unless players fall the best to hope out of 16 is Mercer zary, Holloway, Schneider to just name a few. I think those guys will be very good but the ceiling of that first tier is definitely a jump that can impact a franchise forever

Did they? I thought no one really knew which order #1-2 would go till the very end. (Hughes/Hischier).

Let the Pens hate flow...

Unfortunately I was unable to watch the last game, due to having to work (I just had the radio on). However, Ek, if you actually watched the earlier games you would have seen the Pens dominating play 95% percent of the time. The 5% of the time they did not often resulted in critical defensive breakdowns, where Murray was unable to bail them out.

Unfortunately the Pens continue to struggle against teams that are very solid defensively and play good traps (including all Claude Julien-coached teams).

Winning the Cup obviously would have been the best thing to happen. However, possibly getting Lafreniere and possibly seeing a Bruins/Canes and a Flyers/Habs matchups is the next best thing .

Should those matchups happen I predict that the Canes will beat the Bruins this time (perhaps even easily) and if the Habs are able to continue that strong defensive play and Carey Price is able to play that well in net they could take out the Flyers. I honestly didn't think Price could play that good anymore but he proved me wrong.
