what's funny about Babcock is when all those stories came out about what a bad guy he was.. and stuff he did to Marner ..etc. I was reading them thinking... He didn't do anything that bad and some coaches like Herb Brooks, Torts, etc. get their teams to unite by giving them someone to hate a little bit.. like the coach.
Babcock getting "cancelled" b/c he had a rookie rank everyone on the team based on effort and then called out the bottom 5 in front of the whole team is a riot. It for sure would anger the whole team.. but I bet those bottom 5 played well that night. - niteislander
Theyāre too many young stars who donāt play for each other. Leafs need to get rid of Nylander and if Iām them I trade Marner for a stud on the backend. |

For me it started with the Darcy Tucker cheapshot on Peca. But, I canāt get over the fact that he pulled one of the most gutless bushleague moves in the NHL, all to give himself a better shot at winning and it blew up in his face. For all the stat guruās, Iām curious what the corsi is for having heart? Cause when Jason phucking Spezza is the hungriest guy out there, itās a problem. Leafs fans will say āhe left because they didnāt give him any supportā. He was flanked with the leagues elite last night and 30 million later.....no goals. - kindlyrick
Followed by the Boarding of Kenny Johnsson the next game by Roberts. We had waited years to get back into the playoffs and they took out our best Center and best D-man in back to back games.

I find it amazing that people believe Tavares was cleaver enough to manipulate the trade deadline, then got stupid and went on TV and announced to the world what a scum move he pulled on the Islanders.
The internet and conspiracy theories sure go together. |

He flubbed an open net, as captain and 10 million a year. Laughable.
Ironically that leaf team coulda used Kadri who was the only player to play with grit. Tyson Barrie sucks - kindlyrick

Very happy for Babcock today. He was not the issue at all and saw the real problems and tried to do something about it. |

Hockey is about passion and grit. You do not need an entire team of fighters but you cannot have the core players as softies. Bossy and Trottier were never soft and would do what was needed to get the job done. If JT needs to fight to get his team going or threw one huge hit he should have done it. He does not have it in him to do these things. |

I agree on every count though I disliked the Leafs even before that series but those playoffs definitely heightened it for me. Yeah Leaf fans will die on the Tavares hill 100%. What else can they do? Iāll be the first to say we would be much better with him (imagine having Pageau as our fourth line center)the real question is would he have been worth the price tag and as the leader of this team? I know itās been discussed ad nauseam on here but a lot of us always questioned his leadership and at this point you have to wonder... |

I think in the long run it is better not to have JT Cpt. He will be 30 in September and his skating will only get worse along with that Cap hit. You need to bring a lot more intangibles for the money he is making. The Leafs were much better off spending that money on defense and some real grit. Matt Martin may be able to cash in with the Leafs again? |

Well there's a better-than-a-third chance that he ends up with the Rangers/Leafs/Penguins |

Bro he shanked the empty net. You gotta bury that. Thatās what heās out there for. It was his chance to earn his paycheck. Truth is heās a great cog on a wheel but heās not the cornerstone we all once thought. I wouldnāt want him on this isles team as he doesnāt represent what I believe a captain should. I would however would have wanted something in return for the isles top asset at the time. That will always be the inarguable gripe from isles fans. Because of that I laugh at their failure |

Not to quibble, but my memory is that the Roberts hit on Jonsson and the Tucker hit on Peca were the same game; i.e., Game 5 of the series which took place in Toronto. |

Beginning to look like that but having that added fire power is what it is. |

Would have been interesting to see if JT even would have bought into Barry's system especially if JT's numbers went down? It is sweet JT has had more playoff success with the Isles than the Leafs. |

If JT stayed, I think the Islanders had a decent shot at making the finals in 2018.
Will the Leafs ask Babcock to come back? Would he demand total control over personnel, because that tends to make players fall in line.

Watching JT lay an egg in Game 5 yesterday I highly doubt it. JT would have been lucky to get a point against the Canes. Unless it's Florida, JT does not do well in the playoffs. |

We'll never know, but the Leafs played very soft on the puck and disjointed. Many times the Leafs had 1 guy battling at the O-zone wall for the puck with shoddy support. Everyone else stayed well away and waited for the puck to pop out, hoping to get a scoring chance. Selfish.
Late in the 3rd, they woke up and started jumping in and battling, but they were so disjointed they still couldn't keep the puck in the O-zone. No real puck battle or D-structure at all. |
