Don’t disagree about Dach and Debrincat but Dach is 19 and has been great until tonight. Debrincat and Strome both are big disappointments right now. But 88 is not moving his feet or his hands like he usually does. Too stationary and not very quick/elusive - EnzoD
Right about now Kane would be happy to see Michal Handzus as his 43 year old centerman. Dach has been great to this point but he's not ready for this level of hockey against a big, strong veteran team which leaves Kane pretty much by himself. |

These are growing pains boys. Like when the Red Wings spanked the Hawks in 2009. - DarthKane
Right... that’s exactly what this is...
Because this team is on the cusp of winning three Cups in five years.
You can just feel it. |

He was on the PP - but not 5 on 5
Deboer is a really good coach and Vegas has the talent to take ice away from Kane.
If people are unwilling to break up 8/19/20 to give Kane some help, the Hawks now go from a 2 line team to a 1 line team
3 of the goals Vegas scored were Hawks blunders. So defensively it wasnt all that bad. But they need to be able to create pressure which can draw penalties
Maybe go to -
Caggulia-Toews-Kane
Saad-Dach-Kubilak
Being honest here - with the way Toews has been playing, I'd like to see what Toews and Kane can do vs Vegas and if they'd have an answer - PatShart

Honestly, I'm not mad about the game at all. 5 on 5 needs improvement. Vegas is fast, puck hungry, & deep. Lehner got a few fortuitous bounces & posts.
Pp was pretty good generating chances & pk was great.
Crow took a few to the dome, he looked questionable at times, but locked in a lot. I thought he was fine, but idk if I let him play the b2b.
Dach looked like a kid against a hitting/heavy pressuring team. Not a bad thing. He's learning.
Too many Mia players, but I thought an excellent 1st period & really strong pushback after the first goal. I look towards a regroup & at JC. I'm here for the ride & watching the youth progress & gain experience. |

You want to play the Kids, so you want to tale out a 19 and 21/year old for a 21 and 23 year old, or maybe even a 27 year old? - LAHawk
I am just saying Seeler for the toughness in this series but ya I would consider Carlsson and Hagel still part of the youth movement not like Nylander and Boqvist have not had a fair shake .

The line blender isn’t going to do any good - players who have been successful in the past need to play better:
Kane - 4 SAT, one on net
AdB - 1 SAT, none on net
Saad - 2 SAT, none on net
Strome - nothing
Caggiula - 1 SAT, none on net
That’s not much there.
Toews and Kubalik had better numbers, but didn’t seem dangerous.
Changing lines at this point, I fear, won’t help. - StLBravesFan
I agree with everything here except I think Saad had a good game. Our best forwards were him and Kampf. |

3 posts by the Hawks and 2 terrible goals allowed by Crawford....Dach definitely lost his mojo tonight. Murphy, DeHaan, and Keith are all playing great. Not sure how you can break up Saad-Toews-Kubalik but they arent getting anything from any other lines - EnzoD
So Dach is washed up now? |

Totally agree. Dach has already made a lot of progress as a 19 yo rookie and I wouldn't surprised if he looks a lot better as the series progresses.
I watched the first two periods and had to crash, and I'm with you as far as how they looked up to that point.
Like some have said in earlier blogs, it can be a bit frustrating but I haven't been in pacing/nail biting mode with these games.
They're playing with house money. Hopefully they go farther than this series but if not, leverage the learning experience and go from there.

Chicago showed up for the first 3 to 5 shifts after that , it was all Vegas. We as hawks fans keep talking about the usual suspects being M.I.A I'd like to see JC tweak the lines and bench a couple of guys.
I know some will argue their gaining experience, if your not producing and nowhere to be found then your a bystander .
Chicago looked like a 12th seed last night and at this rate Chicago will get bounced Saturday game 4.

Defence is fine,1st and 4th line have been good.Kane and the 2nd line ,haven't done much.3rd line is a disaster.Crawford also has to be better.I would change the 3rd completely.Bring in the kids, can't be any worse. |

For which kids though? Caggiula is the grizzled vet on that line at 26. Nylander and Strome are 22 and 23 respectively.
Other than Hagel, who looked good in the 1 NHL game he played before Corona, I'm thinking the replacements you're thinking of have never played an NHL shift. Not sure playoff hockey is the place to get your feet wet. |

I agree with most of your point , with the exception. Boqvist I havent seen anything in this kid from a offensive standpoint that he was put up on a pedestal for.
He and keith need to be broken up Keith's age and size are 2 factors . Keith was a minus 4
Everyone keeps saying their gaining experience. These are grown men whom have been playing the game for a long time at this point they should all understand what's at stake and know how to play a full game |

They are gaining experience. Dach and Boqvist are 2 years away from being able to enjoy a drink legally.
Nylander, Dinky, Strome??? Not much older (22, 22, 23). |

A team that most said the Hawks don't have a chance to beat, Hawks lost last night.
1st period the Hawks played well. 2nd period not 1 but 2 picks occurred to create a lane for the 1st goal
2nd goal, boy it sure looked like Reeves was offside, but Highmore CANNOT fall down while playing physical defense right in front of his own goalie, WTF
3rd goal captain makes a bad pass and Corey doesn't make the save he probably makes 9 out of 10 times.
This team must play 200 feet of hockey, BE PATIENT, drive some possession and fight to the front of the net. |
|
|
|
The other thing the Hawks must do now is light up Smith every chance they get. The free skate time on the ice rink should be closed for him now. |

Crawford let in a couple schiff goals if you ask me based on the highlights. it was on too late for me to watch. how was he actually the rest of the match.
could the Hawks have won if they'd had switched goalers? |

how they allowed the goal, I don't understand. the guy was offside with his foot in and other skate off the ice. |

Even Knights players were cringing at the replay. If that was inconclusive than hockey is doing a great job of getting rid of replay eventually |

i got an idea, since it's such a problem for these refs why don't they just do away with the blue line altogether |

It’s the right perspective. This team wasn’t going to make the playoffs - and they were sellers at the trade deadline. This new format is a “gift” in terms of player development - and a reinvigoration for some of the vets who have experienced past glory. Let’s also not forget that this is JC’s first HC experience in the playoffs - so hopefully he gains insights from this too.

Saw a quote from someone earlier saying Edzo got an explanation from the ref that Reeves dragged the second skate on the blue line.
Was there a rule change I missed or are you now allowed to drag your skate in the air? |

Or fire the dopes that run the replay booth. It is not that hard of a job. But Bettman must have his kids he had with David Stern running the show. |
