I'm fine with it.
For all the shiny new toys the Rangers are accumulating, one thing they still don't have is a C.
Zibanejad is great and all but this is a massive outlier of a season for him. - BINGO!
He's put 70+ points two seasons in a row now.

Now that's a good fit. Most team's would avoid goalie even if he's the best talent available, but you have stars everywhere else so it makes sense.
How you feeling about Rangers winning? It's probably going to be you and them like it's been Pens and Caps on top of the division. - Tojo.

Big difference between 74 in 82 and 75 in 57, I mean. |

True, but 70+ points two years in a row is nothing to downplay. |

We’re in a different situation IMO. The Rangers didn’t win anything during the Lundqvist Era and decided to turn the page when it became completely futile. They’re a proud franchise and have gone through far too long of a dry spell. We’ve had plenty of success during the Sid/Geno Era even if it doesn’t always feel that way. That affords us the luxury to let Crosby and Malkin ride off into the sunset in Pittsburgh without having to worry about how far it’ll set us back moving forward into the future. We can stomach a bit of a doldrums to let them retire Penguins. - Victoro311
I think Sid geno and letang should retire as pens. A good gm could build around their twilight years, and although maybe they won’t be perennial cup contenders they could still make the playoffs without skipping a beat.

I believe you don't live in Pittsburgh or at least haven't for a while so I'll forgive you for overestimating the patience in this town. Sports fans here won't want to wait 5 years to start rebuilding if the team isn't a contender. A lot od them literally ran out of patience last year because back to back Cups apparently doesn't buy you 2 years of not getting close.
A reset doesn't have to involve Sid or Geno or even Letang. They could decide to move guys like Rust, Dumoulin, and Zucker before their contracts expire for futures.
But that's a question for maybe next off-season, I'm still going for the Cup with this core next year. - Tojo.
I'm sorry but that is just crazy. People it is OVER as far as this core! The Pens are no where near going after a Cup next year. There are so many teams just in the Metro that are way better and younger then they are: Carolina, Philadelphia, NYR. Washington is better then them. You think they would beat NYI or Columbus?
There is nothing wrong with starting to trade guys that may have some value left to a contender to get younger. Like I've said before, I thought they should have traded #58 after they lost to Washington. I'm guessing now after going 1-7 in the playoffs the last two years, a lot of fans wish that too? |

This feels like a strange hill to die on since Andersen is better than Murray. He plays in front of a crap defense, but over the past 3 year has the 11th best GSAA in the league.
I'm assuming your complaint is cap savings, but as someone who isn't fully confident in Jarry/DeSmith this certainly isn't the worst move ever. |

Yes. My guess is Jarry will cost them around $3/$3.5M, so why spend $8M when you can spend under $5M. |

If Murray has value its malpractice to trade him for another goalie when we have other needs. If you’re not confident in Jarry/DeSmith, then pick up a vet for under 2mil to back up and push Jarry. |

'Kypreos is not known as a great insider (Congrats to Bobby M on his retirement today, one of the best in the business). So I have a hard time believing this.
You have a situation where you have a goalie who will likely be too expensive and you want to keep your other goalie who is better and cheaper... so we are trading him for another goalie that leaves us in the same situation? I hope to God this isnt true.
The Penguins are lucky, a lot of teams will be looking to wheel and deal this offseason. Rutherford has to find the desperate teams with bad management and swing deals. The only thing I worry is that is how other teams view the Penguins right now.
Rutherford doesnt care about the future. He will prop up Crosby/Malkin/Letang for as many years as he has left here. He doesnt care about picks. Mike Lange on Madden today said the Penguins should start accumulating draft picks. I didnt here the whole interview, but that is certainly a contrarian view in the organization (but one I reasonably agree with). |

Clearly none of the comments have read the actual article.
To me, I want him to go to a team that is actually going to use his talents and have a stable team to build around him.
1. Pittsburgh
2. Minnesota (they always lose out in the NHL lottery)
3. Nashville
4. Florida
5. Winnipeg
6. Toronto
7. NY Rangers
8. Edmonton - SuperHenderson13
obviously your hate for the Rangers has nothing to do with your assessment that their at 7 and what a surprise your beloved penguins are 1st SMH |

Getting a good goalie for a bad goalie with a similar contract is neither malpractice nor worth being fired.
I lost my last bit of confidence in Murray, but Jarry also was terrible the 2nd half and has no track record of sustained success. So shopping in the Mike Smith price range wouldn't comfort me.
And I personally would love a good player on an expiring contract. My list is probably not as big as most, basically just a decent RW to round out the top 6, and I don't want another expensive long-term deal.
But as another poster said, this being Kypreos, it probably isn't happening. |

Zib def a 1c just not a high end one that puts up over 90. If they trade buch and probably DeAngelo for a 2c they are in good shape. They also have an extra 1st this year as well |

Best reason to do it is as a safety net for Jarry
Murray's going to want Multi year. So if you sign him to say 3 years 15 million, What do you do with Jarry, especially if he proves the better of the 2?
If you can swing Murray for Anderson, Then if Jarry is legit, then you just let Anderson walk, or flip him at the deadline. If Jarry struggles, then you at least have a goalie who has some pedigree behind him, who at this point isn't as big of a ? mark as Murray is. Maybe you even keep Anderson around if Jarry isn't the guy
I'd personally rather just move Murray for a pick or young asset and roll the dice with Jarry/Desmith. I think we have to qualify him at 3.75 Million and then he can choose arbitration if he doesn't get an RFA offer or we don't sign him |

I would go this route, too. There are going to be a lot of old, decent goalies on the FA market this offseason and I'd bet more than a couple will still be available mid-season should we need one. Put that money to better use elsewhere, like 1RW and 3C.
I have faith in Jarry if we can straighten out the defense in front of him. |

Deserve??? Wishful thinking. Pens had a number one overall not that long ago in reality. By that standard, the oilers shouldn’t have one until the turn of the century. |

Anderson > Murray ...Anderson a 5 mill cap hit next year then UFA.
Its hard to predict whats going to happen with contracts but I suspect there wont be many, if any, big raises with this flat cap. I'm not so sure Jarry is getting anywhere north of 3 mill anymore. What will Murray want? He's probably not getting much more than 5 now. I could see players signing 2 or 3 year contracts now in hopes the flat cap it gone by next contract. I dont see GM's being real eager to dish out high paying long term contracts either unless its bona fide studs.
If Murray is wanting more than 5 I pull the trigger on that trade right away.

Rutherford needs to be axed. Him and his coach are stale. There are some major issues with the roster because of him I'm not so sure can be fixed ie: getting rid of JJ. Actually, I should rephrase that: There are major issues with the roster Im not convinced at all he thinks are problems...if so, thats a major f'n problem, and the Pens biggest. |

What are the other major issues? Moving JJ is definitely an issue, it would be awesome if some other team just signed Murray but I think he'll be moved via trade. It would be nice to move Horny but it's not entirely necessary. |

And I'm not saying Ruth shouldnt be axed. Sully should be axed as well. Just talking what we need moved off this team. It's not like we have 5 guys that are albatrosses. |
