Im just trying to soften the blow, get people ready, for something different. - aecliptic
Yea I didn't mean you in particular, just in general. I have read a few other writers throw it out there as well. This year should be such a clear cut choice. i know management has to listen but just do the right thing |

I can't even imagine them sticking at 1 and passing on Lafreniere, it's such a clear cut choice this year
him and Byfield are not 1a and 1b like Hughes and Kakko were last year
there is a drop off - jimbro83
My understanding is that Hughes and Kakko would be top 10 picks in this draft, too. Not necessarily 1a and 1b like they were last year. If that is true and Laf is the clear cut choice at 1, we struck gold baby! |

Not a huge Herman fan, but this is accurate:
Lafreniere likely falls short Crosby and McDavid as surefire Hall-of-Famers before they even reached the NHL, but he’s one tier below that. Certainly and demonstrably above both Jack Hughes and Kaapo Kakko in last year’s draft, and that’s no criticism of those two. Lafreniere is the best player to come through Canadian Juniors since McDavid, and if there’s any concern about the level of competition then just look to his 10 points in five World Juniors games for Canada this past Winter; good enough to lead the entire tournament by points-per-game. If Lafreniere develops as expected — and there isn’t much reason to doubt he will — the Rangers will have a legitimate superstar winger who could challenge for individual accolades and be the best forward on a perennial Stanley Cup contender. |

The best part about LAF is that he can just play like a normal player. He’s insulated with stars around him and not the lead dog at 19. He’ll be there eventually, but he’ll have very little pressure to start his career which is very important |

I’m still stunned they won this lottery after winning last years too. That just doesn’t happen to ranger fans |

You think Kakko will get depressed not being the "savior" anymore? |

I think it takes the pressure off him and he’ll be better because of it |

Yup, totally agree. The whole "coming to America" pressure of speaking great English because the camera is always in your face is immediately lifted off his back. Wasn't that his biggest fear coming into the league? I think we see Kakko take off from here. |

I asked JD where the team needs to improve with Carolina sweep in mind.
He highlighted positive of young players getting experience, specifically mentioning Howden and Kakko, and he raved about K'Andre Miller's camp.

Gorton answered the goalie question pretty plainly:
"We won’t go into next year with three goalies. We’ll take the time we need to figure out what’s next."

With 10 picks in the upcoming draft, I asked Gorton how open he is to using that draft capital to acquire players who can help right now:
"I think it’s reasonable to assume that we’ll be out there looking to see how we can better our team."

When asked about flat cap and RFAs that need to be paid (I specifically asked about Strome and DeAngelo), Gorton repeated, "We do have some time here to sort things out."
He acknowledged the importance of those two and said: "There’s a lot of uncertainty about what’s next." #NYR |
