Can only imagine how many suspensions Stevens would have had in today’s game. The transition he made from offensive to shut down type defenseman was pretty amazing.

I noticed when I watched a lot of the 1986 Rangers-Caps series recently, Stevens wasn't even close to the player yet he would become way back in that series

Yea early in his career w the Caps he was a different player. Once w the Devils for sure his style was always so close to the edge but as he matured his temper got better and he knew right where to walk up to that line without (most times) going over it. Those hits are all brutal but almost all were legal by the days standards.

Kaspar very predatory on that hit - jimbro83
Since we're reminiscing remember the Kasper/Messeir battles 1992-96 or so? Once with Pittsburgh Kasper drew a game misconduct on Mess for dropping the gloves and throwing multiple punches with Darius turtling. Mess never lost that fiery temper even into his 40s.

Certainly, but that's the way the game was played at the time. It's not like the Flyers didn't know how Kasparitis played. - Tonybere
WIth the Isles Kasper got under all the best players skin bad. Mario/Mess/Lindros, ironically he ended up all teammates with them later. Was it Kasperaitis who Dino Ciccarelli swung his stick at his head? Might have been before Kasper's time, talk about a temper...Dino
Elbow to the jaw, head down. Dirty hit but exacerbated by Lindros skating with head down. It’s amazing what his career could have been but cut short due to the myriad of concussions.

it's amazing how much I hated Kaspar and Ulfie before they became Rangers, and I believe Messier felt exactly the same way

That infamous hit was in the 2000 playoffs. Pretty much Lindros was never an elite player after that - B2B76
he missed the whole 2000-2001 season, but I think most of that was him having a feud with the Flyers medical team and then we acquired him in summer of 2001
then he was great the first half of the year for Rangers and then got a concussion in San Jose

Langdon was probably one of the smartest fighters in the game. He seldom lost and dropped the gloves with anyone. - mames11
Langdon's best asset as a fighter was his stamina, he could outlast anyone and he needed that cause he wasn't the toughest guy by any means but was smart and pretty disciplined for a fighter
