at this point I could give two (frank)s about trying to be good the next 2 or 3 years. with a flat cap, going lean could pay serious dividends, like XOM dividends in the face of disaster.
if jack is really at the end of his rope, trade him now while the getting is good. sam too. both for young elc players and top end picks. get super lean this year, next year and probably the year after.
maybe sign dahlin on the "cheap" as an additive benefit from being terrible. get rid of everyone except skinner and okposo, because we cant. in 3 years okposo is gone and skinner is the only anchor to the cap. the alternative seems much worse imo.
Could just peddle in mediocrity being near the cap in the meantime or set ourselves up to be great in 3 or 4 years. I'll take the latter.

I dont think making the playoffs after missing for 9 straight years is low expectations. Once you get in maybe you win or maybe you become the leafs, i dont care either way at this point just get in

The waiting two more years was in regards to eichel demanding a trade and our ability to get full value for him now. If he demands a trade a year or two or three from now all you’re doing is delaying a year or two or three while getting less in return for him than you could right now. He is our biggest trade chip right now.
