I believe we’re seeing undeniable proof that it’s contagious. |

That was a scumbag move. No doubt. Martin got a penalty for retaliating which really pissed me off.
So your sayings Lee’s hit was dirty? - nyisles7
talked about it in last blog. Not sure what Lee was supposed to do on that play. The guy is looking behind him and skating right into Lee. Is he supposed to jump out of the way? Just stood his ground .. did not jump into hit, stride into it, lift arm.. He just braced himself for some nitwit not looking where he was skating. ... whole thing is absurd.

Not with Johnston on it. Only a matter of time till he explodes with offense. Hands like butter and wheels like a Ferrari. |

I thought he had a great game. Old school, but he was just an assist short of the Gordie Howe hat trick. |

I had to look up to see if he had the assist. Full marks. Lead with emotion, win or lose the fights. Loved it. Great leader. |

Eh, Lee could have destroyed him and did hold up a bit. That said Backstrom was vulnerable and Lee took advantage of it and did throw his shoulder and weight into it not to mention it was late. He didn’t merely brace himself because Backstrom ran into him. That’s what you said last blog, we will disagree on that. That’s looking at it through Orange and Blue glasses. It was a late hit, penalty was called and served and no other disciplinary measures should or will be taken. Your take it shouldn’t have even been a penalty.
Reirden saying it was predatory was Like your view But only on the Caps side of it. |

You mean Todd Reirden, the man who coaches the team that Tom Wilson plays for?
I'm not disagreeing as, like you said, Lee did more than simply brace himself. But I just found the ironing sweet. |

If this was Martin or Cal I would tend to agree with you, but It's Anders Lee.. he isn't a guy who looks to lay people out. It's the first 2 minutes of a playoff game and a guy is skating into him... I really don't think anyone would have done it different from what he did.. stood his ground and braced to be hit. ... literally felt remorse immediately as he was getting jumped.
the only time Lee is aggressive is in battles in front of the net or after whistle scrums sticking up for teammates. Clearly I am biased.. but I just don't see it. |

It was a bad hit but the penalty was also sufficient punishment for it. There's no "excuse" that explains away what he did as some sort of unavoidable accident, but it also wasn't like he flew across the neutral zone and blew up his skull either.
A fine would have been acceptable but it's miles from a suspendable play.
The Capitals are pissed because it's Backstrom and of course they're going to act like Lee pulled out a sharpened toothbrush and shanked him. The irony is highly enjoyable though.
In summation:

Definitely bias opinion which you are welcome to and being a fan as well I understand. But I want to understand, as you see it, there shouldn’t have even been a penalty because Backstrom skated into Lee who just stood there? Am I understanding you correctly?

How about Backstrom protects himself a little better than he did? It’s not exactly his first rodeo.
It’s been said already, but Rierdan’s quote after the game is laughable considering they employ a guy like Wilson. |
