I’m of two minds. 1) wolf pack mentality. Every player who lines up against, or skates near, or comes in contact after the whistle gives Perron the gears. Slash him in the hands or ankle, gloves in face, nut shot, cross check, wet willie, you name it he gets it. 2) don’t touch him, don’t acknowledge him, but... do all this other poop to Tarasenko, Peter Angelo, Binnington, May the Schwartz be with you. Media... just look what happened when they drafted Matthews. Not only did the hockey media convince people in Toronto that AM was a "generational player", they convinced most hockey fans in general that they were the cup favorites for the next 3 seasons. Now they are further away than they were 4 seasons ago.

The idea that they were better before Tavares and Matthews is beyond stupid. They just haven't gotten much better defensively. Muzzin goes down and they are a joke. If they get Dillon or petro it will do a lot. They lose in the playoffs because of the lack of D. Also, imo columbus can beat anyone. They may even upset the bolts again.

The starting point of what I posted was since they drafted Matthews, not before. He was drafted June 2016. 4 years+ 2 months. As far as the JT signing goes, they have not been better and have slid since.
Meanwhile, the Islanders have improved their results since JT walked. Go figure...

They haven’t missed the playoffs since JT joined, only missed it because of crazy Covid circumstances. Why not? They were sucking and on the bubble when the season was cut short with something like 15 games left.
I'm basing it on results and not "Ifs" like what they could add and if they faced someone else for the qualifier as you claim.
