Back in the 80s and into the 90s, Gaetano's original Willingboro location served a mean steak that I would stack up against any I've had. They have expanded since then and while they are still good, they have slipped a little. Mama's in Bala Cynwyd has had excellent steaks for years. You just need to order light cheese (meaning less) because they otherwise put a bit too much on. One of my favs now is Tony Lukes (Oregon Ave location, *NOT* the ballpark location).

Truth is, there is no right answer. It's personal preference. For me, Whiz is the only cheese that's worse than government cheese and should be outright illegal to serve to humans. Personally, I like those places that do a blend that may include mild provolone, American, mild cheddar. I've had one that had Gruyere and light truffle oil that was fantastic.l

I don't get the Dalessandro's love. I used to work near there for about 20 years. Definitely great bread and cheese, but the meat was sub-par. After throwing out more than half of my cheesesteak 2 out of 3 times I stopped going altogether. Maybe it's gotten better again, but I swore they were using horse meat at the time. Really bad.

Best cheesesteak I've had was from Mama's Pizzeria (which is a misnomer as they no longer have pizza). Huge sandwich and just melts in your mouth. And yes, definitely provolone (American #2) but hell no to wiz.

Also a big yes to Philly/Italian roast pork.

you constantly move things away from hockey. its wrong to exclude or have bias against someone because they are different period. my point about the funeral was that the world changes, mostly for the better. we accept differences and should embrace them.

They want a recognition (in a world that is rapidly becoming globalized aka Anglo-Saxonized) that you understand that they are different, and that difference is important to them.

Speaking of the dearth of places in S jersey, I have to confess that when Sarcone's Deli closed and Angelo's took over, I had low expectations. But I was impressed. The Upside Down John is a monster! You get a mini-workout for your arm muscles carrying that thing back!

Agree on all that, but what do you mean Philly doesn't put onions? You fry the onions, then you chop up the meat over it, and then the cheese towards the end. Then you slather it on some good bread. As others have pointed out, the bread is crucial.

Again, I am not taking sides here, as both camps have merit, but out of curiosity, would you be ok with completely open borders if no American's job can be replaced by a foreigner?

That way, there is no economic insecurity, but we will be a Spanish speaking country in 30 years, and cheese steaks will be replaced by tacos al pastor.
