I have been reading up on Cam Morrison 6-3 210 F from ND. 21 years old. he is a UFA. generally considered the best F has solid speed for a big guy and is a 2 way player. makes the smart play and plays more straight line then shifty. got better every year and is on the young side for 4 year UFA. a bottom 6 guy but has size grit and solid speed for a big guy. plays both PP and PK. we need more size in the bottom 6. did anybody else here the league AVG is 6-1 3/4 and 210 and Vegas has 2/3 there team larger we have 1/3. if we add the D from Wisc, the Swiss f/c get Mitchell and 3 year deal and sign cam M. that is about as much as Stan can do until the draft. - kmw4631 Rangers are signing him

Rangers are signing him - GPHawksfan
I did not see him linked to any team yet on twitter or the WEB. where did you read that? they are loaded with skill young forwards. they really need centers. I guess and maybe size which he fits.

Maybe not, but the Hawks will likely have to do something to free up cap space. If there’s no buyouts that means a trade. Maybe Maatta gets dealt, maybe Murphy or de Haan. But it could be Saad too. - DarthKane
Same amount of $ come back in trades everyone except 2-3 are in same boat and they can cherry pick. I think you will see teams next season playing over the cap. |

Given the stagnant cap and other economic issues facing the league, I don’t see much player movement in the offseason.
Not many teams have enough cap space to take on salary and give back prospects or picks - so what can you hope to get back for the 6 you mentioned? If you move them at all.
As for buyouts - I don’t think Rocky / Danny are going to want to spend money on dead contracts at this point.
I think player development - and better coaching - will be the main road to improve the for the next year or two. - StLBravesFan
100% agree on all your points. That's why dropping 8 draft spots inexact science or not is debatable whether it was worth winning the first round. |

I agree with you. Crawford is approaching retirement age and there are health concerns that come with age along with the fact he is one solid bonk on the head away from likely being on the shelf again. I could be wrong, but I am willing to bet his next contract will be in the 1-2 year and 2-3 million range. I think if he wants to keep playing he wants to play for Chicago even if he leaves some money on the table. - breadbag 2@$2-3, 1@$3-4 is what I expect to see if he's even wanted there may be a better alternative out there? But who knows time will tell.

Question: for example if escrow adjustment lowers Toews contract from $10.5 to $9.0 what number counts against the cap? If seasonal bonuses count against so should escrow adjustment reductions??? |

The cap is an “estimate” of the 50% of HRR for this season.
The escrow is an adjustment for last year.
Seasonal bonuses are payments for this season (some of which may be carried over to next year's cap).
The $10.5 is what goes against the new cap - justifiably, IMO. |

I think this is a deep draft, we will still get a good player, I think. The young players got a taste of winning round one as well as a higher playoff intensity against a much better team. Lessons learned for the youth who should be faces of the team in the future. I liked what I saw.
Honestly, save for missed chances with the puck here & there, this series has been great. One goal games are enjoyable. Just wish they would get the lead. |

It's a running joke on here that the Rangers sign all the good college UFAs. |

All of that hasn’t helped the Rags win yet - they went 54 years between 1940 and 1994 - now another 26.
Being in the largest market hasn’t helped them - OR the Mets, Jets, Knicks, Nets....
Yankees have won a couple. |

I don't see them winning until Lunkhead is out of the net. Even with all the money tied up in Artemi (way too much) I can see them being better. |

How can teams play over the cap? Did they change it from being a hard cap? |

You can't just fire players if nobody wants them then they play. We're in uncharted waters here.
Every team is in the same boat. Didn't a couple teams somehow play over the cap this last season? |

any of you buying this from ecklund: "Word around the league was that they told Lehner as this was happening that they would still have a ton of interest come July 1 in bringing Lehner back to be the Hawks #1 for years to come."
I don't. Hawks could not afford him then and not now...that also means goodbye to crow.

I've been following this site since just after the 3rd cup in '15. Has any story/rumor that Ek broke ever come to fruition? |

I don't think Stan operates that way. Supposedly, Boston said the same thing to Lester when they traded him to the A's. |

Don't think so.
No way the Hawks can afford to resign Lehner and honestly I don't think he is worth what he'll get on the open market. |

MAF is still better than Lehner. 4@$6 would replace Crow's contract with no increase. |
