OK, let’s revisit. Stan and Lehner’s agent are negotiating. Lehner says no hometown discount, which means at a minimum he wants 7 x $7, which Stan can’t afford nor probably stomach the term. Your club is not making the playoffs. So you lose Lehner for zero at the end of the year. Nobody is offering a #1 draft choice. What do you do at the Trade deadline? - LAHawk
Trade him for a 2nd, Subban, and Slava Demin?
I'm surprised CAR didn't pony up given their goalie situation but I think it also tells you what the market was. Like you said, no one was willing to part with their 1st for our UFA goalie. I thought Stan did ok here. |

Wow. Tyler Motte is still in the NHL and playing on a good team. Good for him |

I think we're just stuck with Cat for the time being. I don't think anyone predicted 40 goals so fast. He's just got to find that middle ground and he's still young. Too bad they dealt the cash already, but I think we were all hoping for another Panarin type. Here's to a win tomorrow!!! |

No maybe - yes. |

I really wish the Hawks had someone like Ovi's or Webers shot. So effective |

You do what Stanbo did - trade Lehner to the Maple Leafs and let them deal with Vegas. The rich, desperate and confused Loafs retained some of Lehner's salary in order to buy a 5th round pick from Vegas.
So Stan got himself a 2nd and another young defenceman to put in his collection which I'm good with.
And on one of the broadcasts this week one of the 'insiders' said that Bowman told Lehner after the trade that the Hawks will definitely want to talk with him in the off season. Which Elbows will find exhilarating. |

Please tell me there was a similar discussion with Koekkoek. |

This is a very interesting development - that Vancouver has taken a 2 - 0 series lead
Do you really want the Blues not to advace. It is one thing to cheer for an underdog. They do have some exciting young talent. Altogether different story though if you are hoping the best teams meet each roundvof playoff. Those darn Canuck - el - heads.

Blues didn't deserve that game to go to OT

Motte has played very well, I’d welcome him back in a heartbeat. He’s been a very solid 4th liner & PK specialist for the Canucks. |

All things considered, Stan did well in the Lehner trade. Historically teams don’t pay the same price for rental goalies as they do for rental forwards. There are exceptions, but they’re rare.
Signing Lehner last summer was a win/win situation. Either the Hawks have their goalie for the next few years (if he re-signs) or they trade him and get assets they would not have had otherwise. The Hawks needed a second round pick, now they have one.
Speaking of the Hawks 2nd round pick. Have we figured out if it will be #45 or #55? |

I have to give Vancouver credit, they look good. I’m not sure how far they will go this year, but they have a shot at a decent run.

Scary thing is you're probably right. I'll never understand giving more power to an ex player who hasn't done anything as opposed to a gm who's got several cups. |

Debrincat, Strome, and Nylander should all be on trading block - newfguy
How about all of them and the Hawks 1st for the Rangers 1st? I wouldn't offer that if I knew what was going on with DCat. From here though it looks like something's up with his shot. So yeah, any takers? |

I'd take Motte back, too. Was disappointed to see him in that polarizing trade with Columbus.
He's fast, built like a fire hydrant, defensively responsible. Decent offensive skill.
A 4th line with Kampf centering Motte and Highmore would be stellar. I like Carpenter but Motte is younger and more mobile. |

DeBrincat just needs to pigeon hole himself as a goal scorer. Get to the prime scoring areas and have linemates feed him or make space so he can unleash his snapshot.
If he can do that, he should get back to at least an annual 30-35 goal range.
But if not and he degrades more next year, he may be go the way of Jonathan Cheechoo.
So the question is do you remain faithful in DeBrincat or try to sell high now in case his stock slips even more.
It would suck to have another Gustafsson situation by not maximizing returns a year early. |

It's too bad if people are upset about the trade...Hawks weren't paying up for Panarin, right? I'm not the biggest Saad fan, but I thought (probably my first problem), Saad was a quality return. Saad can be a gamebreaker. He definitely should have had 1, if not 2 goals last game (just to contradict myself lol) |

I wouldn't say we could sell high on DeBrincat now in fact I'm not sure you could sell him with that contract at all?
