“Looking for a spot for Gaudette? Cup winner Jay Beagle had 9 mins, 0 shots, 0 attempted, 1 hit, and 40 percent in the faceoff circle.” - Pacificgem
There was so much shade throwing last night I thought it was a black out. I agree with Nucker, it mixing players in a blender. I doubt Gaudette would make a difference .
If Myers Toffoli and Ferland were available it would be a tighter fought series but they are not.
I hope they keep the same players in and use this as an audition for next year, including the coaching. This fan base falls in love with players like Lack and Volpati and we seem to have a few more this year with Motte and Stecher. I watched one hit Motte made last night and the guy hardly moved.

I like Tyler Motte, he’s a good bottom six guy, kills penalties effectively, it’s the other guys that need to go. We need to get younger and quicker in the bottom six.
The top six guys just looked out of sync last night, they were fumbling the puck, they look like they just didn’t know what to do with it. At one time Miller and Horvat were 2 feet apart along the half-wall on the PP and a St. Louis defender came in and just took the (frank) away from them because neither one knew who was going to take it.

Petey and Hughes are the standouts IMO Marky too. I thought JTM looked off even though he scored .
Jake showed a pulse last night finally. Pearson was just okay. Roussel had his moments and then the rest of the team was pretty mediocre IMO.
Bo has to bring his A game every shift like Petey does. I don't think he did enough last night as a team leader. IMO
Something has to change. Really hoping TT can come back, though with no word on his injury it's impossible to know a timeline.
Not sure why Bailey isn't in. 6'4" 214 lbs, 47 points in 53 games for Utica. His write up sounds like the exact player they need against the Blues: Justin Bailey is known as a big winger who plays a modern power forward game. Is a load to handle for opposing defenders one on one. He also has a quick release and skates very well for such a large individual. Does not mind using his size to punish opponents physically.
Miller - Petey - JV
Pearson - Bo - Roussel
Bailey - Gaudette - Boeser
Motte - Sutter - Eriksson
I know Jake hasn't done poop but they need to change things up big while they still have time in this series. I would start with something like this and adjust as you go.

One of Beagle or Sutter need to go, I think JV will be packaged for a young D prospect, LE needs to go somewhere/anywhere...
Hopefully another off-season gives Gaudette some time to hit the gym. I can see Hoglander coming in on the third line. Need to make room for guys like him, ZM, Lind, and Podkolzin to see what they have.

Bieksa the panel clown lost me with his whole trident routine. At least his haircut points in a natural direction now. Looked like he was sailing in a nor easter all day before.

Looks like he's going to a Hitler Youth meeting...lol
Man, having all those guys in the series would be a huge difference. A healthy Ferland would be a beast here.
If healthy, JB would have assembled a pretty good team. Unfortunately, the young guys just aren't there quite yet. Will be soon - NewYorkNuck
As much as I want them to win, I'm still considering this series a bonus. It really looked like the Nucks were going to miss the playoffs, just being here is great for the young guys.
I agree with you, get rid of Beagle, Sutter, Eriksson and bring in Hoglander, Zack, and whoever shows best in training camp.

I felt that way when the series first started, but when they got up 2-0 it gave me hope
I think the time of having all the vets to insulate the kids is gone. Petey, Bo, Hughes are all in the upper class of the league for their age. Still need some guys to show them what it takes to win, but I don't think they need the crutch of those vets eating the hard minutes up front. Time to support them with players who will actively make the team more dynamic.

D is a bit of a different story, though. - NewYorkNuck
Yeah supporting cast, guys like Roussel/Pearson are what's needed now.

Apparently triple checking NST for Ryan O’Reilly's numbers in 4 games of this series wasn't enough because I still undersold his dominance:
•24:27 TOI/game
•3 goals, 3 primary assists
•5v5 attempts 97-29, shots on goal 55-11, high danger chances 16-3 for STL with him on ice

I think of Carolina and the Leafs as those types of teams and to an extent the Oilers. None are really better off than us at this time.
I mean....if we new going into the play-in round we'd be 2-2 against the blues....I'd take that 10/10 times. Anything can happen. PP let us down a bit. We were outplayed....but still had a chance.
I agree, try Bailey on the 4th line with Zac Mac and Motte

"Those guys are just dominating with the puck. But that's what they do. Ask Boston, ask SJS, the teams they beat last year. They play long series, but they won because by games 4 and 5 you don't want to play that way anymore, and that's what the #canucks are facing

That's why that game three OT was huge. Win that and you have 4 chances to win 1 more game.
Canucks have to beat their forecheck, and the best way to do that is move the puck quickly. So many times seen players stop it up along the boards, wait to take a hit and try to move the puck 3 feet... but then it gets jammed up and the Blues start to cycle. Put in OJ as he's a good puck mover on the back end

There is some statistic from last year. Where in games 1 - 3 Blues were like 6-6, then in games 4-7 they went 10-4.
No Tarasenko rest of series so see how that plays in. Barbashev should be back game 5.

At the end of the day this is a good test/experience for VAN. I'm sure most here would agree they have already exceeded this years expectations. Anything from here on in is a bonus.
