Watching this game I find it very hard to believe we couldn't get at least 1 of these young players in the deal. what a complete embarrassment.

Sure feels like we’re cursed 89. ROR trade would’ve been better if they didn’t get anything back in return.

you make a trade like that, you trade everyone but cozens, dahlin, joker, 6k and maybe kahun

love the new look for you.

The Blues GM who made a great trade for ROR, also paid Marco Scandella and Justin Faulk a combined 10.5 million a year and might lose Alex Pietrangelo and or Vince Dunn as a result.

Every GM kinda sucks

I love Cirelli, my fear is the ROR situation all over again.

Big trade, big contract, used specifically as a defensive player and is someone who doesn’t contribute enough offense at EV.

That being said I’d love to get him

- sbroads24

The problem was that we didn’t realize we had anyone behind O’Reilly that could play decent defensively
We started to do it for the last quarter or so of the ‘17-‘18 season with Larsson, but then we lost ROR that summer

Too bad too
Bc I’d LOVE LOVE LOVE a Center group next season of Eichel, O’Reilly, Cozens & Larsson
That’s a good enough group that could give us a chance at some playoff success

Oh well... can’t do anything about that now except try to hold on to Larsson & try again to replace ROR
I wish it was as easy as you thought it would be

Pietrangelo is turning 31 at the start of next season (in January)
It’s probably a good move to not sign him to the 8yr contract he’ll demand
Still a heck of a player right now,
but the last half of that deal could not be kind

No doubt that they get Dunn signed long term

We traded Pysyk to move up to take Asplund. Debrincant went a few picks later.

Gotta love it

- Pegullaville

I try not to get too wrapped up in that
U can look at pretty much any draft see mistakes by various teams
It happens

Eichel, Skinner, Reinhart, Dahlin

Pettersson, Boeser, Miller, Hughes.

Buffalo doesn’t have a Horvat or Markstrom.

There is the difference in my eyes.

- Pegullaville

True
Cozens could be that extra difference maker up front for us
But UPL is still a few years away it looks like

I know what u r saying but don’t count on a parade until they prove they have big balls and some playoff grit. I like to see the job done then pay up.
- Camel

That is the hard part...once proven, it's rare they get moved. Some do, but rarely.

The Sabres very much need a few character guys, unfortunately seems like most of are players need to be taught that, instead of having it.

Ralph and Taylor not communicating since 2019?

How is that even possible? How do you not coordinate coach to coach about your prospects? Definitely shines a new light as to Tayls getting canned. Just very bizarre.

yes, he's a playoff coach, no he hasn't won anything.

can you teach character?...

lindy always talked about the core guys "playing out of character"...they never really did...at least on a consistent basis

Lysowski elaborated via tweets:

It's common to talk occasionally, but both guys have a team to coach. Botterill relayed all that information to Krueger.

When Anthony from DBTB questioned the dynamic, Lance said that it's weird more than anything and makes him question the communication under the previous management.

Unlike some, I can directly source what's truly second hand info

Lance Lysowski was on Gene Battaglia's ESPN Rochester radio show and mentioned that it was something he was told from his sources.

Maybe not, but I hope something can be taught to these young kids.

The poor or entirely lacking communication would be on all 3 men, Ralph, Taylor, and Botterill, not just Taylor, right?

Also, 2 of the 3 above were fired while the great communicator is still head coach.

Would probably be better than what was actually happening, which was nothing.

I get that these two guys don't need to speak every day, or every week.

But how are there not meetings maybe once a month to discuss the development of prospects? Like, hey Ralph, this is how Asplund and Borgen and Brysen and Mittelstadt are coming along, is there something you'd like to see from these guys to help them get promoted?

All the GMs and all the coaches should be doing these meetings. Having Jason Botterill as the universal conduit makes things like Scandella for a 4th for Frolik, so, good (frank)ing riddance.

You can't teach character. It's either you or not you. It's like trying to paddle against the current with a stick.

Without knowing all the details, there's likely an organizational structure in place. You two report to me. I doubt Ralph was ignoring Tayls' phone calls.

Just another piss poor strategy employed by a glorified scout.

And you know what, I totally buy what Lance is saying.

Because it's right in line with Kevyn Adams' wish to have a "Flat Organization"

This org has a tendency to bring up the flaws of the previous regime every time a new body comes in.
