No way man he’s a better all around player. One thing we need more of are defensive forwards. Especially if we lose Fast - Slimtj100
He’s not worth giving up assets for. If we’re trading for a 2C I want someone better than Danault. |

I got ya. He’s not gonna cost a lot tho is the point. He could even be a deadline deal too, UFA rental. Like suppose Chytil explodes for example, then you pawn him off as a rental
The trade off is, less offense then Strome but much better at faceoffs and defensively. I know it’s an overrated stat, but Danault was +18 on a pretty bad team, pre pause. He’s going vs the best centers in the league. He’s a very underrated player imo |

Buch or Lemeuix +Hajek is way more than I’d be willing to go. |

Really? I think you’re nuts but it wouldn’t be the first time haha. I know you don’t see a need for defensive forwards, but Danault is very similar to Stepan
I get your point...I’m just saying...Trade Strome for a similar package that youre giving up for Danault, and it essentially becomes a wash. Strome is gonna get a new deal this year, where Danault could wait a year, and it allows you to see if Chytil can become your number two, or someone else. It just gives you more options, instead of locking in Strome when it’s already risky. This is the same situation as it was with Hayes, and it was smart to trade him. I don’t see the difference now with Strome. He’ll be a little cheaper tho id hope, and prob less years
Back to the deal...Hajek hasn’t been much of anything and Buch is another FA we’d have to pay and will they really need him in a couple years? He’s expendable imo |

I don't want to rush Miller or Hajek, but they are the hopeful replacements for Smith and Staal. Just like we can't go into next season with 3 goalies, we can't have both Smith and Staal on this roster... |

On top of that Hajek is currently the only defenseman we have to expose. If he’s traded who are we going to expose? |

I think Chytil is going to be moved permanently to wing. Going into next season I’d be fine with making smaller moves like adding a guy like Frederic and resigning Strome to a 2 year deal rather than making a huge splash. |

Swap Howden for Frederic, I believe Howden will be the better point producer but Frederic is what we’re missing. Good on faceoffs, brings a physical presence, perfect 4th line center that could slot up if needed. They were drafted #27 (Howden) and #29 (Frederic) in the same draft. Howden has 136 games in the NHL, Frederic has 17.
Lemeuix Frederic Gauthier could be the 4th line we’ve been missing for a long time. |

It doesn’t have to be Hajek lol. I thought I wasn’t giving enough🤷🏻♂️
For arguments sake. If the two options are Danualt and Strome, I think its Danualt in so many ways. He also seems likely to move, where you can’t see the others being moved. I think he’s the perfect fit, like Cirelli. It’s almost the same player, cirelli is just younger. Same exact game and like I said, they don’t really have a shutdown the oppositions players kind of team yet, they need defensive players too. Trouba is hopefully that D, but center is the most important position on the ice and Zib can’t do everything. Strome is a one dimensional, Howden is ok but we know he can’t score.
Like I said, you get another year to see if Chytil can be a legit center. Danault isn’t due for a contract yet like Strome is. That’s a huge factor in my thinking, actually it’s the biggest |

Barron is on his way also. It sucks that in a draft we drafted 7th and 21st, used both picks on centers and both likely will never play center for the NYR.
If we’re going to give up assets for a center I want someone better than Danault, to me he’s a stop gap that I’m not willing to give up assets for. I’ve seen very few teams with center depth but 2 of the ones I’ve seen are VAN and MTL. Both of those teams are very weak on the wing, seems like a perfect fit to me. VAN has Petterson Miller Horvat. For the right price maybe they move Horvat. I’m not going to toss up a trade idea bc that bring us down that rabbit hole but just another team to consider. MTL drafted Kotkoniemi 3rd overall so they’re hoping he can fill in the top 6 sooner than later. Suzuki is a top 6 talent as well. My target would be Domi or Suzuki, not Phoeling or Danault. |

He’s only a stop a gap if Chytil doesn’t develop. You are completely missing the point. Stop gaps are not 27 yes old either. You just don’t like defensive forwards that don’t get 80-90 pts. You are vastly underrating Danault. Right now, In the playoffs, he’s the shut down center and doing a good job

If we were targeting him to be our 3C, great. No problem. We’re targeting him to center Panarin, for that I want someone like Domi/Suzuki/Horvat etc. short of guys like that, just keep Strome |

Montreal is not moving a Selke candidate center for minimal return and don't think they are trading him at all. Maybe I will be proven wrong, but will be very surprised if he is traded. |

Who? Suzuki? I’m fine with paying a premium to get him, if it’s to much target Domi. I’m not saying we HAVE to get any of these guys, I’m fine with keeping Strome. Just pointing out the only teams I see that are a little deep up the middle (VAN and MTL) are a little weak on the wings, which is where we’re deep. |

Anyway, getting back to the question itself, I say no f’ing way, unless it’s at a big, fat discount. Maybe Strome does this, shorter term, to pad his value, getting to center Breadman. But, not likely. |

Offer can be one or two years, player can accept or decline, as far as I am aware. If one year, he would still be an RFA the following year. If two years, he becomes a UFA at the end. |
