You got it! Not to mentioned trading away Teravainen, Danault and Panarin.
- DarthKane

I simply dont know how he could have signed PAnarin to a long term deal.

Believe me, no one hated Panarin's departure more than me, except maybe Kaner.

I think Entwistle will get a sniff next year, but I don't think he'll be a full time guy unless he is a beast in camp and in RFD or there are a lot of injuries.

I struggle with Strome; on one hand, I don't think you'll be able to get someone of his talent for the price I think they can no get him for.

I say keep him for no more than 2-years on a bridge deal for $3M per. Any more term or AAV and I would have to think about moving him.

I also don't think Strome will ever be set up to be a strong playoff performer. I'd rather a faster, feistier, and tougher to play against centre in the mold of a Toews and - soon-to-be Dach. Can we somehow pry Adam Lowry away from WIN? I think he's a perfect guy for a 3C.

2 years at 3mil? How about 1 year for 1.5 ? I would try to trade him and go with one of the kids with speed, it would give you some cap room down the road?
Great articles and I viewed this series as bonus as a fan and experience for the young players, Wish Hagel, Louis C could dress for this game tonight.

Someone else mentioned $2.1 mil. to Strome because if someone else wants to pay more, at least you would get a second rounder out of it.

Man, I simply forgot this player, and have ignored him since his draft year. I dunno, did he get injured at Notre Dame? Or did he simply want to finish college? Anyway, it might be to the Hawk organization's advantage.
I remember some draft prognosticators has him in the late first round in 2016, but I simply didn't see him enough to separate any qualities for me to have a love affair with him. He had upside to possible 2nd liner, with many parts of the game and his style kinda compared to Max Pacioretty but please I said compares...

https://www.draftsite.com...r/cameron-morrison/23947/

Here, I will go from my notes;
Big skilled winger who a rookie in the USHL. He is one of the younger players in the draft class, and is big strong and physical. Displays a high hockey IQ, reacting without hesitation inside of his two-way game. Has a good first step is decent speed to accentuate his two way game. Has size, a good wall game and an active stick, and plays on the penalty-kill and will see time on the power play. Gets terrific torque on his snap shot and can knock goalies backwards, as he hides the release points on all his shots well. Finds open seams at opportune times. He dominates below the circles as he is strong as an ox. Handles the puck well and is good at recieving hard quick passes. The type of player who can easily slide up and down the forward lines and contribute. He's smart with the puck on his stick, and uses his size to drive to the blue paint and along the boards, and owns the wall on the cycle, as he plays hard on his stick and is impossible to move off the puck in the cycle. Carries junior players on his back on his way to the net. Committed to the University of Notre Dame, he has the makings of a power forward when he adds more muscle and jump, and channels it by using his size. Needs time.

Wiz, I love draft previews, but I really wish they were more fair and balanced. Not just you, but every one who does them. If you listen to the NHL Network coverage of the draft, every player is touted as a future HOFer. And we all know that only a small percentage of draftees will even make the big show.

You list 15 lines of positives, and 1 of negatives ('needs time'). How about equal positives and negatives? Let us know what the holes in his game are, because there have to be plenty, as there are with almost every prospect.

Wasn’t one of the issues that the Hayes felt that the brother wasn’t treated well here?
- StLBravesFan

There was speculation as to that was why he didn't want to sign here. I was told he was an east coast guy and wanted to stay there. I'm not so sure he and Toews would have been on the same page. And I don't think he ever would have gotten here the same contract that the Flyers gave him. So good for him. One of these days he might even learn how to not fall down on a regular basis.

Getting Kubes for a 5th. Or was that a massive overpay on Stan’s part with the timing once again being called into question?
- HawkintheD

taking dach # 3 over the other options.
trading forsling and Forsberg for dehann
signing 3 of the top 10 UFA that are under ELC.

he acquired Richard panik and Koeke for almost nothing.

signing Panarin in the 1st place. as well as kempny. he has been better in the draft and Euro UFA then he has trading or extending. I do wonder how much contracts and trades from roster were influenced by Q and MCD. Im guessing the other things they kept there hands out of.

its been a mixed bag but he has had some success.

Keeping Hjarmalsson and letting Niemi walk, acquiring Vermette for the cup run, acquiring Roszival and Handzus, when nobody thought they would help. Acquiring Oduya. Although not getting value back, was able to keep the core together for 2 more cups.

Those will be known immediately after the first practice he has with the team.

In all seriousness, I think guys that are good enough to be picked in the first two rounds will have far fewer negatives written about them because they show so well against their peers. Of all they guys in Junior, or EU, or college these are the top 60 in the world (that are eligible to be drafted). It is not until they actually go up against stiffer competition that their flaws really come out.

Strome is a great example. His speed wasn't much of a hindrance to him at all before he was drafted. In the NHL it's a major detriment.

If he’s a 3rd/4th line banger that is Responsible defensively, hits defenseman on the forecheck and can chip in some offense....perfect. He’s probably not gunna be Rick Nash Lol

Not trading for Malkin - Fail
Not trading Toews and Keith for Kopitar and Doughty - Fail
and the coup de grace - not trading Kane for Miller - FAIL!!!

Also these are projections of what he could become and why he is projected to go in round 1, 2 early late. Wiz says what he has to work on. Those are the weaknesses he has that needs to be improved. Reading Wiz's report, I don't see hall of fame, i see a Bickell, Andrew Ladd type of player. He could end up being Jeremy Morin, or the Hawks could hit Yatzhee and he becomes Anders Lee..

That's my point. Based on the write up, he'll be Marian Hossa as a rookie.

I don't see anywhere in the article where Wiz uses the term elite.

Like three or four drafted unsigned free that signed elsewhere ever became anything. I bet he never plays more than 50 NHL games.

With respect, I bolded the only slight negative and italicized the hyperbole:

Answer posted above. He's strong as an ox, owns the wall, can skate with players on his back and he has a shot that knocks goalies backward. Only negatives, his skating is average and needs time. That sounds like a future HOFer to me.

Probably right, just forward depth for Rockford, but maybe he can turn into a Kunitz, Bozak or Dustin Penner. Jimmy Vesey has been a bust, If Morrison turns into a Barclay Goodrow would be good enough for me.

Oh I agree. LA listed a few more and I'd include drafting 20, 65, 12 and some others.

Sounds similar to Saad, sounds like Morrison has a better shot, but not as good a skater as Saad. Can be a good player but no hall of famer.

You got it! Not to mentioned trading away Teravainen, Danault and Panarin. Trading away Saad and re-acquiring him were both terrible moves. Signing Anisimov before he played a game with the Hawks was questionable. Trading away and re-acquiring Shaw were bad moves.

I tried to find some good moves that Stan made but...

- DarthKane

Getting Toews and Kane to take bridge deals is probably the most underrated move any GM has pulled off of all time not counting Boston trading for Phil Esposito and Ken Hodge.

Right, but when was that evaluation written? What was the competition like? I don't believe that is a current evaluation considering Wiz said "from my notes" and also said he barely remembered him.

Like I said before. A lot of guys can look like HOFers against lesser competition.
