Well... no... I'm scratching my head, because you're trying to be a troll, and honestly, you're not good at it, I'm just disappointed and sad for you. Kind of like your parents are for you.

Detroit does not have what the Leafs are looking for , the Leafs have quality players to swap for quality players....it will be a 2 or 3 for 1 and a pick type deal though.
- HenryHockey

It's unlikely to see some 3-for-1 deal that solves their cap woes. More likely a series of deals. So let's say they sign Pietrangelo or trade Nylander for a guy like Nurse.

Then they swap Kapanen for retained Glendening. Saves $2.3M.

Then Kerfoot goes to Edmonton for a pick.

Then Dermott goes somewhere else for a pick.

Then they sign a couple of cheap UFA's.

It's going to be a busy off-season for Dubas.

good article, but as a leaf fan I can tell you it won't be Hyman. the others you discussed such as Kapanen, Johnsson, Kerfoot are a different story....mikheyev is another that they won't deal unless someone knocks them out which won't happen

Yeah I never mentioned Hyman as a guy on the way out. The Leafs need more guys like him. They'll throw money at Hyman to keep him there. And if that means Kapanen, Kerfoot, and Johnsson get moved then that's the price to pay.

I do think people are over-estimating the potential return on guys like Kapanen and Johnsson. With a cap that isn't rising, it's mid-tier guys like this who will get squeezed out. Pietrangelo is going to get his money. Hall is going to get his money. But mid-tier guys may find the market dries up. So why would I shell out big assets for Kerfoot at $3.6M when I can maybe sign Eric Haula as a UFA for comparable money. So teams with cap space (ie Detroit) will have an opportunity to add talent without giving up much.

I don't think it would take a big offer to get andreas johnsson and/or Alex kerfoot from the leafs.

Kapanen would be gone already if Dubas was thinking about trading him, not an awful penalty killer... keeps the point men honest with his speed.

Yeah, that’s on me. I dig ZH and if Detroit had the depth, he and Larks on a 2nd line would be fantastic. My bad

I would normally never admit this. With my head issues I misread sometimes. I read the word “honest” as “moist”. I almost left a very different reply!!

Man i hate that word "moist" ... ultimately, it will be interesting to see if Yzerman is even interested in any of guys the leafs need to move out ... he made a move to acquire Timashov, and the leafs aren't a hated rival, even with the cities pretty close...

I think Johnsson would be a good pick up... maybe something like a 3rd rd pick, and a conditional pick based on Andreas 2020-21 season. High of another 3rd, low as a 6th or 7th.

TOR is in tough sgape. But if we talk straight trade, DET doesn't have Jack, or ship, for TOR. If we talk picks & retained salary; maybe.

This is a REALLY tough discussion, J. Yet again, the posters give some seriously insightful replies....

I just can't see much other than picks for Johnson, LOVE Hyman, but Marner I think is staying...for now. Sooner or later Dubas is either going to burn the $40m down or be quietly asked to retire to a home with really soft walls and "I-Love-Me" jackets. TOR fans expect a return on the investment: SOON.

You don't think a guy like Glendening at less than $1M helps the Leafs? I mean dumping Johnsson or Kapanen for picks is easy. But adding some sandpaper like Glendening at less than $1M seems like the type of move Toronto needs to make. Or is the plan to bring back Jason Spezza at age 38?

I hate that word now, for sure! Yzerman definitely has specific characters in mind. If he grabs someone, they check a box or help acquire a pick. He’s such a cerebral guy and has a lot of confidence on how he wants to build something. I don’t think he ever shuts it down

You’re right, the fits from Detroit are, for the most part, cap space that Toronto may need. I could see some 3 way deals where Detroit aids in some of the transfers and picks up a pick or two. I love this group and these conversations. K did a nice job laying some ground work and the back and forth always gives a nugget or two.

Howdy, K! Valid point; DET needs FWD space opened up, and Glennie is a viable chip. What would the return be, tho? I do like the idea of a 3-way trade whereby we snag an upper-level pick, or 2+, to be the cap-absorption entity.

Spezza at 38, or Abbey at a +/- that's so low it doesn't register....tough choice 🤔🤔. If a deal makes sense, get the log-jam of potential NHLers out of GR, and improves the team, I'll buy a pint or 2 of that Ginger-Ale (only if it's Vernor's, though!!!).

Love the way you think and the research you put into your posts, by the way. Very analytical and gives a ton of credability to your proposals. Thanks for helping make this blog so dang good!

Yeah that is the way things seem to happen these days. No Lindros or Gretzky to peddle this year for a haul......I long for the good ole days when they swapped the bodies and did not need a capoligist to analyze it as well.

Both my parents were very proud of me. They both died recently and I am still struggling with their passing. I won't be able to give them a proper burial till this COVID mess is over....Now, do you realize how rude you are?
