The Lehtonen/Mikeyev signings will be interesting long-term to see how they turn out. - RogerRoeper
Mikheyev was personally vetted by Babcock, so he should be ok. |

Kerfoot - Johnsson - Nylander could all have been traded.
Should have kept Marleau and the 1st rounder.
Should have kept Brown.
Should have kept Zaitsev.
Dubas sucks. - MaximusAurelius
Good plan.... Trade Kadri for Kerfoot and Barrie, flip Kerfoot to another team and then hope and pray Marner takes a bridge deal? |

HAHAHAHA. Price can't be given away regardless of his great play. - RogerRoeper
Look, I'm not gonna try and pretend his contract is attractive.
But let's face it.
If you're gonna pay 10.5M per year on a goaltender.
It's gotta be Carey Price.
And if you think it's smarter to spend that money on a star forward.
I wonder who's having the biggest impact these playoffs? Him or Marner?
Would the Leafs still be playing with Price in net?
I'd say probably. |

And yet who led the charge for that 3 goal comeback the Leafs did vs Columbus?
That's right.
Captain Nylander.
I rest my case. - Scabeh
Nylander had 2 goals and 2 assists in that 5 games. It's his fault, why couldn't he score more goals than Matthews? |

That depends, how does Price handle shots from behind the goal line?

You're not wrong about everything.
But you are so ridiculously wrong about some things that everything you say is discounted.
You and Roger are very similar that way. - Leafs43
And also at the time it was 100% wrong.
Lehner couldn't make a save to save his life. Then he got his life together. Imagine that. |

I get that his play changes the narrative a bit, but he still has 6 years left at 10.5 per until he's 38.
Leafs bombed and didn't make the playoffs, but Marner is 23 and got 94 points last year.

Great goaltenders care still effective at 36-37 years old. And once his play does drop, Habs have Primeau to take over.
I think you're completely wrong about him being unmovable. It's mostly the Habs who would never move him than the other way around.

Maybe you could justify $10.5 till 2026 because it's Price and maybe you could rationalize it in the context of the expectation of a rising cap but not at his age when you don't know when the decline will begin

Not sure any goalie can expect that type of payday again after the Bobrovsky disaster and how good Columbus has been without him.

I would agree with you if you could understand the difference between a a trade for hockey purposes and a trade for cap purposes. - Leafs43
so we traded kadri, brown and a 1st away to overpay marner.
and then we missed the playoffs after having a worse season than the year before.
there was no rush to give marner 11m. could have signed him for 2 years and gave him the 11m ish on his next deal.
there were other options that needed to be explored. trading 1sts away than missing the playoffs is the same incompetent poop we got circa 2009. |

What is Hyman worth?
I don't want him to go. But I have this sneaking suspicion Dubas will package him for a defenseman over any of the big 4.

it just sucks about marelau. 13th overall pick in a deep draft. we'll see what player carolina gets but that one could end up hurting big time. |
