i was just thinkign this morning about how great dorsett would have been to have in this series. if only jv could give even a fraction of that guys effort - johnnykarate
we need some nerd with lots of time on his hands (nucker? ) to do an "All Decade" Team for the entire league. From 2009-2010 to 2019-2020 pick the best team. example 2011 Sedins/Kesler; 2019 EP/QH etc.
I'd say the Canucks would be able to compete with anyone!
I think JV has played himself off the team. Package him for a young D.
Still wonder what it would take to get puljarvi out of Edmonton. With OJ potentially being on the team, would that be a good environment for them both to be in? - NewYorkNuck
I think so too. He needs to have a hell of an ending to the rest of this series here. My opinion is he finally showed a sign of a pulse in the third period . It may too little too late.

I caught a bit of the radio broadcast at the end of the second period and they said the zamboni only needed to clean the ice from the Canucks blue line to the end boards. - 1970vintage
You could see it in game 3, that's why I wanted the fresh legs. How do you beat a forechecking team like that? On the counter attack. Look how often the blues have 3 men deep.

Disagree. I think this is being entirely overblown (to justify the contract perhaps?)
He didn't play well against Minnesota. He didn't play particularly well in the first game against STL. He played decent in the second game. He's been a penalty machine in all the games (criticize the refs all you want but he's been in the box way too much.)
So this "huge" deficiency is based on what? One game?
The Blues are a big team that is wearing down the Canucks. It would definitely help to have bigger guys especially on D and Myers fits the bill but let's not overstate things.
The fact that Myers is being compared to Stetcher (his replacement) says all that needs to be said about Myers. His regular season was bad and he has played like a decent 3rd pairing guy for 1 or 2 games since the return. This is being labelled "huge loss." - RealityChecker
I watched Myers a lot in WPG and saw in the first 2 games vs the blues how important a big body RHD is in the PO's. I never compared' him to Stech but I see why that may have confused some. It's clear we miss him vs STL. They are exploiting Stecher hard on that weak right side. His reg season agree was mediocre but I do get his value in PO hockey as it was with the Jets when they were making their runs. I didn't see much of the Minny games as I was in BC on vacation but we still won the series with a healthy Myers lol
Is what it is. The Blues were struggling vs Myers out there in games 1-2 as his size was a factor the blues couldn't jerk him around like our other soft D. So they took him out... Gotta be a little dirty to be champs too

yeah i think its time for him to go. i remember hearing the excuses that he was needed for the playoffs but the playoffs have been here and hes done s.f.a.

Counter attack and moving the pucks quickly so they can’t set up their forecheck. Too many times the D are stopping the puck and looking for small 5 foot passes. It may be dumb but aerials and glass and out, using the teams speed to hound them down. Peteys goal the other game was just a broken play from their D and our speed causing them problems.

Not sure WTF is going on with JV but man he looks dis-interested out there. Is he pouting? Hard to say but man it reminds of his work ethic when I watched him here a lot in WHL games...flashes of speed/shot and such but 0 hockey IQ lol. Ferland could have shown JV a thing or two on how to be an impact player

One period of pulse in how many games now? It’s not enough.

The one thing about Myers is he could win a battle on the boards. - golfingsince
I think it's more of a matter of looking at what the Canucks are missing and seeing if they have that.
They lack size and playing "big." The guy not in the lineup that can fit that description is Myers. Then it becomes "they are really missing Myers." But when he's been in, he hasn't played great. He's a third pairing guy at best. I don't see him improving on that.
The size and toughness on the backend needs to be addressed. Myers isn't the solution though he's paid like he is.

I agree . Everyone said we need his big body , big hits, his speed. He sat a few games and when he did get put in was invisible. I think 5 years of not meeting expectations is long enough.

i think they need to make decisions quicker when it comes to that. plenty of the blues opportunities were taking the puck back in the cancuk zone. if they can play that transition game itll benefit them more than the possession style. far too many times tho they defend well and hold the puck before getting checked again

He's been playing like he does coming back from summer. He gets himself too "soft" whether is mental or physical when he's away from the game.
He just didn't have enough time to get into the intensity zone. Other guys can raise their games (fitness and intensity) quicker and that just highlights Jake's inability to do so. He needs a reality check (being waived or traded type of shock) to wake him the EFF UP!

it doesnt take iq to go out there and wreak havoc. he could easily be a player who teams need to be aware when they are on the ice.. he just doesnt
maybe we take the tryamkin tactic and show him this video on repeat
Benning saying he won't be going the free-agency route is a bit concerning, as I feel the team needs on defense at least, another big defender like a Joel Edmundson, to supplement the soft defense this team has.
With no one other than Jett Woo in the system, that plays an aggressive game, the team will remain soft on the back end, unless Benning meant they won't be going after higj-priced free-agents.(although, I think Joel would cost about 4 million per).
Juolevi, Brisebois etc. Aren't noted for their physicality, which might be why Benning appears to want Tryamkin back.

Not sure how you can miss someone who spends half the game in the penalty box. I was not a fan of the signing, so my opinion will be perceived as bias. If they needed a 'big body' maybe they should have kept Gudbranson.

I was in the camp of run him in the playoffs and he could be a beast. He's been pretty disappointing and non-impactful. He hasn't gotten a ton of ice time, but there are certainly players who have made a greater impact with comparable usage.

I think he'd 100% spend the money if he could, but he has none to spend. He can't even afford to bring back the current roster, and he has to keep space open for the future to sign EP/Hughes.
Sucks that Tryamkin won't be back until like the 2021-2022 season now since he signed back to the KHL for another year. I agree that the team needs a guy who'll punish forwards back there without being bad at NHL hockey.
The bottom 6 and Bo's wingers needs more speed, especially if Jake gets traded. That would leave Motte as the only fast skater in the entire "bottom 8"(Bo's wingers included) along with ZMac. Green talks about wanting an aggressive forecheck and Benning talks about building a team with speed and skill that's hard to play against but yet the team is somehow mediocre in both speed and toughness.

I was 50/50 on the signing too as again I watched him a lot in WPG. But I do recognize his impact in PO hockey.

im ok with having less physical defensemen but imo the impact of losing myers is losing a guy that can take the physicality. i think thats where someone like tryamkin (who wasnt overly physical late time) is appealing, he can play his game while taking the bumps along the way. tanev and elder (less so now) were very similar in that fashion
