Canucks signed Beagle, Roussel, Schaller all on the same day only 2 years ago.
$8 mil per year, $28 mil total for those 3. I like JB, but that is a crapload of money - NorthNuck
Yup and it is serving it's purpose. Just because some or a lot don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.

He doesn’t crack the top 62 RHD in the league? Stecher is 52nd highest paid. |

Schaller was bad. Beagle's contract is bad, you could get a comparable player for half the cost. I don't know if either of those are really up for debate, they objectively have/will hurt the team.
In a vacuum I am okay with Roussel's contract despite it being a slight over payment because I like what he brings to the team. |

This to me is why the contracts for Petey and Hughes are so crucial. If you get them at the right number, for the entire length of those deals you can point to them when negotiating with other players and say "See what he's getting paid and what his output is? We'll pay you proportionally."
To me that's why they got Boeser at the cap hit they did, easy to point at Horvat and say he contributes just as much if not more to the team, so we'll adjust for the cap going up but you ain't getting much more than him. - NorthNuck
Petey and Hughes will probably get a 7 mil bridge deal each next year. Hughes can not be offer sheeted and has no arbitration rights. It will be no problem . Edler is off the books and so are about 4 or 5 other players.
They are not 9 million dollar players yet.

Schaller 2 x 2 contract is not bad
Loui's 6x6 is bad.
Like I said before just because you or others don't like the player or contract doesn't mean it is bad. Look at the Canucks now round two and on the brink of maybe sending the Cup Champs home. |

Nothing is bad on the surface unless a hinderance. So we don’t know til the offseason of who is signed or not & for how much. |

Without the flat cap I guarantee you they are. Friedman was suggesting Pettersson could easily demand over 10 mil prior to the covid break. |

He’s not the GM or agent. No arb rights & not every team chooses no bridge deal. |

How many contracts has Freidman done for the NHL?
I think Vintsy pointed out that there was 16 players with contracts over 9 mil not making they playoffs. Do you think Dubas would hand out the same contracts again if he could do it over?
The other side of your flat cap suggestion is that it also removed 3 mil in cap space from every team so teams need to adjust.

I'm with you guys on the potential for bridge deals and those being much cheaper. Personally if I were JB I'd be trying to lock them up long term anyway because they will only get more expensive. |

Yes probably but the flat cap cannot be ignored. |

What's the hurry? Both players and their agents know what is going on . Why not wait two or three years and then sign the long term better deal.
A lot of free agents league wide are going to be disappointed to what is being offered . Welcome to 2020

Just because some people think that they are good contracts doesn't mean that they are. Like you, I can live with the Roussel contract, at least he smashes people's faces in. |

That was such an impressive win. Those saves by marky were insane.
Not many (I was doubtful) thought they had a chance, especially down 1-3.
Who do we take out if TT is back? And who steps in for Edler if he can’t?
Gaudette again?
OJ?

I think we go to let TT walk unless he takes a team-friendly deal. Looking at his stats...he's had a couple good years....but not a massive upgrade IMO. Maybe 4 X 5M or take a hike! |

Unfortunately, I doubt LE comes out as well. He’s been good in his defensive and PK role, but just a hole on offense.
For Green it’s probably one offensive guy in, one offensive guy out. |

Then Beagle. Watching him miss that wide open net while all alone in the slot was infuriating. |

I have never been a Loui fan, but, he is an NHL player, albeit a 4th line caliber, whereas Gaidette is not. IMO |

How about that in game adjustment to swap Bo and Petey to shut down ROR? I really think we are a better scoring team and if guys like Brock and Jake get past the intimidation factor we can take this.
