They just played like they were afraid but hopefully they get it back Thursday and it nit during golf
- Upstate_isles

Come on afraid? Do you ever play like your afraid? Playing the wrong game then. Especially at that level.

Out worked maybe and they get PP and don’t score and the Caps get PP and score. It’s a total momentum changer in tonight’s game imho.
Good thing is we have Barry to play the videos. Quit crying about the cheap shots and stay out of the (frank)ing box.

They will be ready to go next game.

They came out fast and stopped skating. Someone said they gave up in third quarter more like 1st. Emotions not under control. They’ll be fine.

I'm not worried. After last year's sweep this may be a good lesson for them.

Touchdown formation in third quarter was the term I think.

Afraid is silly really. Losing the battles yes. Being beat to the puck yes. But afraid to get hit. Nah, that’s just not why they lost.
Now taking stupid (frank)ing penalties and not playing their game yes. Afraid of being hit nah, not buying that.
The Islanders going up 2 to 0 in the 1st gave them a sense of false security and they started playing cute and non Islanders hockey. Gotta give The Caps credit for turning it up after being down 2-0 and just saying WTF let’s go what do we have to loose.
That was helped with the Isles inept PP and The Caps scoring on theirs. Total momentum change.

When teams push you need to respond and the Islanders didn’t push back imho.

Varly and Pelech the only players who played after the 3rd period
- nyisles7

Are they still playing? If so, Pageau, Brassard, Lee, Cizikas and Leddy are still playing too.

never, I have had my bell rung so, I’m too stupid to be afraid so these guys have been through a hell of a lot more than me to be afraid. They just got off their game.

They need a bellows or wahlstrom, I'd love hoffman but no cap space for him. Also of concern is backstrom skated today so he will be back and thats more MOJO for them

Isles should go after Toffoli. Solid two way player, good on the PP and decent on the PK, and has a ring. Not sure what the Isles cap space looks like, but Toffoli should run between 6-7 mil for a few years.

Question to your afraid comment, think Johnston being on the bench could help that?

Sorry, just a bored Kings fan, rooting for the Isles to come out of the East.

Maybe boychuk back in and johnston if clutterbuck is hurt which was his fault as he should have dumped it at the red line after being pinned for 2 minutes. Caps chipped it in and pounded the isles and wore them down and forced turnovers with their forecheck. Isles need to get back to they way they were playing and they will be OK. I think the caps just figured out what works vs the isles for them to be successful so I expect to see more of it

They stopped skating in the second period. They got away from their system. They took stupid penalties...AND THEY CANNOT CAPITALIZE ON THE POWERPLAY.

Barzal went from in game three to dog in game four.
Bailey should not be on powerplay. He looks lost.

They need to regroup. No one thought that this would be an easy series. Forget the fact of sweeping. They can beat the caps as long as they play their game.

If Clutter is hurt we might see Ross. Or Trotz may insert Mooseknuckle.

If it were me I insert Ross over MM for game five. MM just does not have the edge he once did.

Disgraceful 2 periods of....whatever that was. Caps got physical and the Isles showed no fight at all. Embarrassing 40 minutes of hot potato hockey. They pull the goalie, Caps stop hitting and the Isles start playing. Apparently, they thought they could figure skate their way thru this one. In those 2 periods:

Eberle looked like a sheet of newspaper being blown around a highway. totally useless.

Nelson had a chance to win it, but didn't want to play the paint and take the hit, so he bailed out and passed the puck to the Caps to keep them occupied while he made his escape.

Barzal has to stop throwing tantrums when he gets knocked down and face washed a little.

On and on it goes...even MM had a chance to drop the gloves and fire the team up but took a pass. Barely saw him all night. Lee gets extensively roughed up at the net by 3 Caps, and not a single blue jersey skates in.

I'm sure Trotz warned them it would get rough, but just stick to playing hockey while they take penalties. Well, why not take penalties when the PP sucks arse.

There were 3 or 4 AA, looks at a lot of open net the Caps shanked. If they hit those
the score would have been as lopsided as the play was. Caps will be on that for sure for the next one.

I hope Trotz considers breaking out the live stock scale and going full heavy to pound some life out of the Caps. If they win the next one and come out nice and fresh like they did last night, the Isles are in real trouble.

This is the biggest detriment imo. Not being able to make the caps pay for cheap shots could turn into a serious problem for the Islanders real quick. Not sure why this continues to be a huge negative for this team?

yep. They either watch video and hang their heads or get some pride back, get real pissed off at how they folded, and come back with a vengeance.

I'm betting on the latter.

I'm not worried. I never expected the Caps to go away easy. Hopefully the Isles will get it done on Thursday.

The power play failure is infuriating. I don't understand how this could be a problem for so long.

Agreed about the powerplay it’s at times maddening to watch. I didn’t expect the caps to go away easy but I also wasn’t expecting the Islanders to either which is what we witnessed last night. Tough to watch.

Yep.. need to fix the PP and stop taking dumb penalties. We came out flying last night and those 2 dumb penalties by Mayfield and barzal really just took the wind out of their sales. we still have a 3-1 lead in the series. Hopefully we take it down on Thursday.

How in the world did they decide to put Leo out there on 4 X 4 for over a minute. Do they realize he can't skate?
