I don't envy those that have to make this call.
It certainly looks like Niskanen is looking for retribution (unprovable) and the puck is right there. So, it also kind of looks like a "hockey play." Doesn't look like a crosscheck, either, as his stick isn't really in his face.
Looks more like a butt-end/punch to me, but still a tough call. |

Actually no, I posted the wrong thought there. I need to correct it and add post season to it. Thanks for pointing that out. - MJL

Apologies if this has already been discussed. What was your thoughts about pulling Hart and then leaving him in after the offsides call? He clearly was not at his best last night. I thought leaving him was not the right move. In hindsight Elliott should have started the game but that was a much more difficult decision. - Marc D
You know what? Best question of the game for last night. I think Hart called the offside, which won him back over with Vigneault.
Great question though Marc. |

A similar thing happened with the Crosby play 3 years. Crosby was sliding and moving Nisky nailed him in the face while he was on his butt already, sliding face up.
I think the clear retribution angle will go against him here. And the previous incident. And the fact that even if he did not intend to go for the jaw, he was clearly going high.
I would say its 75-25 for suspension, not 50-50 as I suggested earlier, and I don't see either judgment being indefensible.
Of course, I hope as a fan he gets away with a fine. |

I think the bench gets notified by the video coaches for plays like that. |

In my opinion by far it's not the green kids that are the issue in this series. It is the veteran players. - MJL
It’s a mix. Raffl, Voracek and I even like what I see from Thompson. As for the kids, Provorov, Sanheim and Myers (bad penalty aside) are all playing extremely well.
Giroux, Hayes, Niskanen and Braun are failing. Konecny can be added to this list. |

Looked like he was somewhat bracing himself on the Crosby play. I think there was intent with Gallagher but I believe he was going for his back. Gallagher turned and leaned forward and got caught. |

Oh, hey bud!
Yeah, you might be right but I could swear Carter said something to Vigneault when he skated to the bench. Maybe it was a time out, commercial break or maybe they were already looking. |

Niskanen gets a hearing today. So i wonder who's right.
Niskanen's play had a lot more intent into it.
e: and even went unpenalized with the ref 10 feet away. Unreal. - Markiz
I can’t wait until the Flyers finish your team off so you can go away. |

Yea that’s not a suspension. Slow motion , he had just turned around. Real speed would clear that up. |

Oh wow. Who shot that? I assume there is just one tv feed that is being shared across the networks?
On that shot, it is pretty clear 90% of the blow falls on the right shoulder. |

Hoo boy!!
I stand corrected! That is a crosscheck, through and through.
And, last second turn or no, I think he will be suspended. Might have avoided it if there was a penalty called in game.
IMO, Sanheim turned away from KK's hit making it way worse. Same logic applies here. |

I don't think it should be a suspension.
The result is kinda ugly but Gallagher turns at the last second while being a little low, crosscheck hits his face/shoulder.... I think Gallagher's face would think it's more than 10% face.
Should have been a double minor but I don't see anything moving forward. |

But, with the other 10% knocking his teeth out, does that matter?
My guess was it was shot by someone standing around the boards on their phone. Could be wrong. |

I agree. But, with no call made at the time, the league has a history of trying to make up for the miss. Think he gets 1 game. |

Looking at your account info, I'd say only one of us is unbiased here.
And, strangely, I am actually cheering for the Flyers in this series. I really like your roster, despite hating your franchise! |

no, it was before that, you can see the jaw getting clipped... also, weather Gallagher turns or not Niskaken seemed to aim the head, or didn't seem to care the head was there, however you want to interpret it...
just my 2 cents, I know I'm a habs fan so it all doesn't matter lol

Yes, it matters, because it demonstrates that the target was not the head.
And as for the last, I would have thought fan video, but who is standing around filming when even the press conferences are on Zoom? |
