Yes, it matters, because it demonstrates that the target was not the head.

And as for the last, I would have thought fan video, but who is standing around filming when even the press conferences are on Zoom?

I strongly disagree, but it's all good.

Hoo boy!!
I stand corrected! That is a crosscheck, through and through.
And, last second turn or no, I think he will be suspended. Might have avoided it if there was a penalty called in game.
IMO, Sanheim turned away from KK's hit making it way worse. Same logic applies here.

- Tonybere

Everything looks worse in slow motion. Niskanen’s should have been a penalty in game, but maybe the ref didn’t have a good look. If they do a make up call, it’s one game.

Sanheim was clearing the puck down. Because he is a lefty that is the direction of his motion in driving the puck. He didn’t turn because of the hit. He made the play and took a bad hit as a result. I think the official followed the rules with the call. In that case, if you don’t like the penalty, look at the rules.

Eh? There are 6 inches of daylight between stick and jaw here. Does Gallagher have a transparent jaw extension? Must be hard to make out then, no pun intended.

Also, I don't think anybody gives a poop you are a Habs fan if you talk hockey. Doesn't automatically mean you are biased.

it's not really worth discussing since we don't have the same way of interpreting measurements... your Richard is probably 20 inches while resting?

Lot of judgment there, actually:

Rule 41 - Boarding
41.1 Boarding – A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player who
checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that
causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently or
dangerously.

The severity of the penalty, based upon the impact with
the boards, shall be at the discretion of the Referee.
There is an enormous amount of judgment involved in the
application of this rule by the Referees. The onus is on the player
applying the check to ensure his opponent is not in a defenseless
position and if so, he must avoid or minimize contact. However, in
determining whether such contact could have been avoided, the
circumstances of the check, including whether the opponent put
himself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously
with the check or whether the check was unavoidable can be
considered. This balance must be considered by the Referees when
applying this rule.

Any unnecessary contact with a player playing the puck on an
obvious “icing” or “off-side” play which results in that player hitting or
impacting the boards is “boarding” and must be penalized as such. In
other instances where there is no contact with the boards, it should be
treated as “charging.”
41.2 Minor Penalty – The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a minor
penalty, based on the degree of violence of the impact with the
boards, to a player guilty of boarding an opponent.

41.3 Major Penalty – The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a major
penalty, based on the degree of violence of the impact with the
boards, to a player guilty of boarding an opponent (see 41.5).
41.4 Match Penalty – The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a match
penalty if, in his judgment, the player attempted to or deliberately
injured his opponent by boarding.
41.5 Game Misconduct Penalty - When a major penalty is imposed under
this rule for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an
opponent, a game misconduct shall be imposed

I agree with everything you said, except about the ref. And that was the intent of my post.
Sanheim sacrificed to make the play. Good on him. He knew the hit was coming and made his choice. So, the hit wasn't really late or a surprise. As KK is launching the hit he's looking at Sanheim's shoulder.
Still a penalty, 100%. But, I think the ref should have called a roughing double-minor of some combination that would have avoided the game misconduct.

Ok, I hate both your franchises!! Totally unbiased!
I will concede that 90% of the blow hits shoulder. But, I want you to explain how he came away bloodied and spitting chicklets if he didn't take it in the mouth?

The remaining 10%? That's a lot of momentum, and a hard object. I think the stick made contact with the jaw on follow through.

While you are allowed to get away with a stick to the face on the follow through of a shot, I'm not sure it applies with a cross-check.

I fail to see the relevance with this series or any relevance at all. Fans are allowed to whine all they want. it's what we do.
But a coach and players crying over a love tap? Come on! Vigneault knows better.
And Hayes well h,es been flopping around all series anyway.
Apparently Weber can rag doll him with 1 hand too. Crazy!

I think they missed a call. Looks like a hockey play, no intent. With Myers earlier, which was a similar infraction, I believe the ref called a double minor for high sticking.
I’m sure someone can quote the rule what ever leeway there is in determining game misconduct or not.
