Decided to kind of sit the title topic out because I've said what my piece over the past 6 months and I couldn't really add anything. Plus work has been kinda nuts. Sorta slow, but I swear if something could break it's broken.
Why don't the Rangers bring in McT for faceoffs? He was such a vital piece of the Rangers cup team and probably could teach Chytil about defensive responsibilities along with working with the penalty kill. |

No thanks. RNH is basically Strome who will be paid UFA money. Not giving up a 20yr old with possible 2C potential just to acquire a more expensive version of another player we already have - Maskdman3
Wow, that's harsh, I think. RNH was a #1 pick. Granted, Strome was a #5, but I still don't see them as being in the same category. As for the 20yr old when possible 2C potential, I wish I could agree with you, and I used to, but I'm not sure I see it anymore. A lot of raw talent, but I'm not sure if he has the hands. To me, RNH, still only 27, is a far more proven commodity. |

RNH has one year left at $6 mil and then he is a UFA. Has been better suited to the wing and will want big $ in a year. - airjan23
I would only trade for RNH if it includes him signin an extension |

If he isn't resigned before then, he's gotta be a potential UFA target right? Might actually work out better for us that way. We get another year to see is Chytil can grow into the role (or if Barron somehow unexpectedly blows up or even someone like Howden improves) and then we will have the extra cap space to target him.
I think what will happen, and it isn't a terrible idea, is to resign Strome on a 2 year deal. Really it works for both sides, we probably wouldn't need the financial commitment, and he still gets to UFA being somewhat younger. As much as we've tried to crap on Strome, he's done nothing but produce while he's been here. At some point, maybe we should just keep him.

Honestly, with the cap situation for one more season and the need for experience for our young guys, I think a 2 year deal for Strome is the way to go. Gives us time to see if someone, including Strome, steps up. And if we need to go UFA, then next year we have capital to play with. Outside of giving up on a young kid and making a trade, I see this as most likely. |

The speculation is irrelevant. 100% Brayden Point is going to be a team player and ask to be moved to NY to save TB from their cap situation. 1c/2c solved.
No need to speculate on what we will do with that CAR 1st either |

Ignore TPC.
Yep, bridge Strome and see how things are in 2 years. |

i think the one thing none of us have brought up (sorry if i missed it), is what does strome want? will he even accept a 2 year deal or is he looking for something long term? i think that will ultimately dictate what is done with him |

If I'm Strome I don't want to sign my long term deal in the year the team is in a cap crunch. If he takes a short term deal it walks him right into UFA. He'll have the opportunity to be the 2C on a team with Panarin, Kreider, Laf, Kakko, Buch, etc. on its wings, in a big city with a lot of eyes on the team. To me its a no brainer for both sides to sign a short term deal. If Strome prices himself out by the end of that deal we'll have more options by then and a better idea of what we have. Its win-win |

It helps us too if he doesn't price himself out. We will need reliable centers on this team. We haven't seen Chytil live up to the billing for extended periods of time and we all know about Mika's durability issues from time to time. Center depth is probably my biggest concern in terms of us winning the next couple years. I'm concerned about it more than the defense, which I think is an issue that isn't quite as big as people make it out to be.

How about Dom Moore as a player/coach. Doesn't say he's officially retired. |

So many reasons to just stand pat and see what we can become.
The D seems to be working itself out, hopefully. Hopefully?
The one thing I am on the fence about it maybe trying to sell high on Tony D. But, I don't think the time is right in terms of what we can take in return. No cap room without other pieces and no need to go after more picks or non-NHL ready prospects right now. |

Faceoffs are important but what more important is when you win and lose them. I remember reading years ago Messier didn’t use his best move until he needed it so guys couldn’t figure him out. He said nothing wrong with losing faceoffs in the neutral zone so no not to show the opposition everything you had. Now I know Chytil isn’t doing that but I believe faceoffs can be over rated. If you have good puck retrieval that can offset bad % at the faceoffs |

I get the idea to sell high on ADA. I actually am excited if he can become a younger version of Yandle. When we actually had Yandle, we didn't quite have that first pair where we could afford to kind of play him as a deadly PP specialist and a more depth even strength guy. Lindgren-Fox was every bit as good as advertised and then some. Neither one of those guys will ever be as good as McD, but I honestly believe in my heart that those two can become a true top pair in the league. Lindgren is going to be out Girardi without Torts tell him to kill himself blocking 10 shots a game.

You know that Islander pick that Ottawa has will be after the Rangers pick. Hopefully it’s not 31. But they have 4 second rounders. Maybe the Rangers can trade down with them and pick up a 2nd rounder that they don’t have. - jimbro83
I think at this point we need quality over quantity. I would actually try and move up if possible. |

Regarding the lineup configurations, I'm still hoping that some of those players are NOT back due to a potential trade for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. I would even be willing to part with Chytil to make that happen. - js10
Absolutely no to RNH. Going to want 8+ and is no better than what we have |

Just found this place and seems like good conversation. Ranger fan back to the mid 70's hence the username.
I would love to keep Fast but I think he would best serve the Rangers in a 4th line role. I would love to see a 4th line of Lemieux - Howden - Fast/Gauthier either Lemieux or Gauthier would be the healthy scratch on a given night.
What would everyone think about signing Strome to a 2 year deal (have read the input already) and possibly signing Brassard for a year to be the 3C? |

There’s no room. Howden or Chytil need to be centering that line or else there’s no spot on the wings for both. I’d rather take the chance these 20 and 21 year olds grow and are able to take it over permanently than sign 33 year old Brassard for 1 year. Welcome to the site |

We talk about players across the league taking time to develop, how about Zib as a perfect example. Career high 51 points at age 25. We see what he’s done the last 2 years. Guys giving up on a guy like Chytil at 20 years old saying they don’t think he has it or he’s not going to be good is insane. Give these kids time to develop, Chytil isn’t even old enough to drink a beer yet and we’re deciding if he’s ever going to be a good hockey player. |
