Keep Kapanen. He's a guy that can bring some offense, can PK, isn't afraid to go on the forecheck, and still youngish. Leafs need more Fins and less Swedes anyways. - MaximusAurelius
Only if he would hit the net more often with his shot.
There is some truth to what you say about what Kap brings. Except that he's very inconsistent (like too many Leafs) - awesome some nights, completely invisible others. He was BRUTAL in the series vs. Columbus.
The part re. Swedes vs. Finn's is utter nonsense. Keep your nationalism in Europe, ok? We don't want it here in Toronto. - fifty__missions
I love it when people completely deny there might be any influence (or even existence!) of cultural identities on outcome of sports teams/organizations.
there are good reasons to say in general terms one could have the opinion to favor having more finns on their hockey team over swedes - all based on those cultural differences between the two countries.
Siegel: It was a tough year for Dubas, no doubt. For the most part, last offseason’s tinkering didn’t pay off, with the Jason Spezza and Ilya Mikheyev signings among the few exceptions. The Nazem Kadri for Tyson Barrie trade failed to bolster the blue line, and Dubas’ inability to adequately address the backup goaltender position earlier in the year also hurt them. Dubas managed to sign Mitch Marner before the season started, but by not signing him earlier, a lot earlier, it resulted in awarding him a slightly above-market contract. The hiring of Sheldon Keefe brought new methods behind the bench, but ultimately, firing Mike Babcock midseason didn’t meaningfully alter the Leafs’ inconsistencies, or 2019-20 fortunes. Grade: C
Mirtle: I think some of the Dubas criticism in this market is overblown given how few critics there were last summer. A lot of this is based on people simply hating analytics and a numbers-based approach. And is this all hindsight second-guessing because they lost a tight five-game series in which they were outscored by a single goal (minus the empty netters)? Still, there’s no doubt mistakes were made. The backup situation was a disaster and Tyson Barrie had a very poor year. Hard to score well given those misses, but Dubas deserves more time to redefine this team given how much of last summer was spent cleaning up the mess that came before. Grade: C

a good assessment, C is barley passing grade for last season. And thats just giving the benefit of the tight rope he had to walk in getting all the players signed and getting rid of NZ/PM
If there isnt a significant improvement next year..then its hot hot seat time

I am jumping on the "fire Dubas" bandwagon if he doesn't make some form of a significant improvement on defense this offseason.
We basically ran with 2 top 4 defenseman and 4 bottom pairing defenseman this year. (Though Barrie was expected to be better). It didn't work. Improve the defense or GTFO.

i hope there is a move to be made to add a sig piece on D, but that does not hinge on me wanting him gone or not. for me its about the results.
There has to be playoff wins, no more excuses.
if he believes in this group, and Sandin can make a big jump etc...then fine, but it better work

Finns, Swedes, who cares
Just as long as there's none of those silly Norwegians (with their crazy names like Zuccarello)

stay the course. a few house-keeping moves.
l'd like to see sandin and liljegren in the lineup. see if they can develop into what we need over the next couple of years.
I like the idea if Bruce Boodrow. think he is a good add for the Leafs coaches.
Also, the Avs are the team right now i expected the Leafs to be. They went Stat/analytics heavy and made several low key smart moves. That are all paying off.
anyways, hope to see the Leafs make that same jump soon

I mean, the avs were definitely not as good, (even with superstar young'ns) when their seasons hinged on rolling out the corpse of Erik Johnson into the roster
