Just looked at Leaf cap space.

We have waaay less space than I thought. Half the issue is going to be icing a team this year after Muzzin/Campbell/Engvall/Holl all got raises.

I have no bloody idea how they upgrade the defense at this point.

So now what teams will have cap space?
- aminnes

Kings, Avs, Devils, Sabres, Sens, Wings.

Plus other teams have space. You just may not be able to offload a full cap hit.

Plenty of deals to be had where a player has a 2.5 Cap hit but a higher salary than AJ,Kap,kerfoot, ect

Assuming anyone wants them. Not sure what you're getting back for those guys. Teams do want a budget but they also don't want to get worse. Dubas knows the d won't get upgraded, it's almost impossible. That's why he has already said Holl is in the top 4.

Zetterberg and Gáborík and/or Seabrook will help the Leafs with that.
LTIR contracts to allow the Leafs over spend on the cap.

Love how the SDNY dumped that spicy meatball on Trump's plate just before the Republican Convention. 🤔😁

I'm confident they can figure it out. But damn - I thought we had some more space.

Anyway, I still want AP. So these Leaf cap nerds better start figuring this sh!t out.

Unless someone with 6.9 mil cap hit and above will need to be moved if they sign AP and then a few more contracts.

St. Louis will have to trade someone and/or buy people out if they want to re-sign AP.
Perhaps that might leave Parayko available.

There's nothing they can do to "figure it out" other than moving some significant money out. Otherwise, yup, Justin friggin Holl in yer top four. 😐

54 million forwards. 5 spots to fill. 15 million d. 3 spots to fill. 6.6 million goalies.

75.6 tied up and 8 open roster spots. 81.5. They have less than 6 million to fill 8 spots. What a mess.

Does that include guys coming off the books or guys that are RFA and the Leafs could lose or let walk?

UFAs $8.75M +

Barrie
Ceci
Clifford
Spezza

RFAs $3.2M

Micheyev
Malgin
Dermott
Goat

Also, this might hurt the Leafs but Clarkson and Horton LTIR is off the books this upcoming season. Both UFAs I believe.

Edit: Yep, just checked, both Clarkson and Horton's LTIR $ is off the books now

We will see.

It certainly doesn't look good. But the Leafs have deep pockets at a time when cash is going to be tight. They also have people much smarter than me managing the cap. I'll wait to see what happens.

Ya but the Leafs already gave raises to Muzzin/Holl/Engvall/Campbell. So a lot of that freed up cap space is going to their raises.

To your second point. No they don't if they did they wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. It's actually pretty simple math. I know they have 'capologists' and stuff but it's pretty bare for all to see.

Yep, good point.

There's no doubt that a few of these guys will not be on the team next season.

Nylander
Kap
Johnsson
Kerfoot
Dermott
Clifford
Spezza
Goat
Malgin
Rosen
MARINCIN!!!

So, Barrie walks and Ceci only stays for less. Dermott goes and is replaced by Lehtonen. Clifford and Spezza stay if it’s for about the same money.

You save some money there if you replace the other guys at same cost. Depending on what’s available for upgrades on D, you try to use whatever combo of forwards to either generate space or as part of a trade.

Do I get the job? I have my own glasses.

Everything is going to be alright.

Or it's not. I don't (frank)ing know. I'm just not going to get my panties in a bunch because there is nothing I can do about it except hope for the best. I would probably prefer they move a big contract. But even moving money from the third line to defense would help immensely.

I hope Spezza come back
I also think GOAT's time with the Leafs should end.
Play Malgin enough games to expose him to Seattle draft
Clifford should be let go. would rather keep the 2nd rnd pick

Yep. Love how people thought because Bannon wears a leather jacket and quotes the classics that he's this maverick political genius. Just another con man. And he provided a neat little demo of the massive graft opportunity that is all the wall would ever be.
