you're sounding cynical when it comes to his talent...sounds as if you don't believe in his talent and don't want to get stuck with a long-term contract...
andy delmore?
really? - Michael Pachla
I am saying we tanked to get a norris trophy winner for decades
don't lock him up on the cheap for an 8 year deal now
give him that 7 mil now on a 3 year deal, and then keep him for another 8 years after that

it's not that they're spending their money as they see fit, it's their marie antoinette, "let them eat cake" placement of "maintaining their lifestyle" within the the company goals...who does that?...
it's biting off way more than they could chew and covering their failures with the sabres team president, who wouldn't be fit to even be a secretary to a sports team president if she wasn't an owner, saying and believing that she knows more than most people who've been around the sport for decades...
here's the rub...it's their fault that they believed their method of managing a sports team would follow the blueprint of their energy business...tereee did not hire the best possible people to run his hockey team and when it failed he tried to take what he believed, or was told, was a sure-fire route to success--the tank...
all of the businesses their in right now, from what i've gathered, are either struggling or failing...except the football team which really doesn't count because it's set up for owners to never fail financially...
a super yacht is is a $275 million ostentatious show of wealth...good for them as it's all for them...
the hockey team is failing, bad for us - Michael Pachla
The businesses around Buffalo and a few other places are all service and entertainment and those are going to struggle during this pandemic era. I have no idea how their energy business is doing.
The tank idea was no doubt advised by the hockey people at the time, Darcy started it.
There is really nothing to do about who the owners are, they are Pegulas and Terry paid all the money to own the Bills and Sabres and wants his wife to be president right now.
Not every owner or president of sports teams has an MBA from Harvard or even has a president. Would I like a top hockey guy, sure, but it isn't happening. They paid the money to own, they run it and if it is not good enough then don't buy the tickets and maybe there will be a change but otherwise the Sabres get the most hits on HB, get some of the highest ratings in the NHL while they lose which is more than a microcosm of the interest still in the team. |

he'll take up about 25% of their remaining cap-space...you picked three teams that could fit him in...good for you...but it doesn't mean they think of him the same way you do - Michael Pachla

if they can't live up to the lofty expectations they foisted upon themselves, if they're pooh-poohing because bad people took their money and if this is a losing proposition for them, how does this misery, made worse by cost-cutting measures, help them or sabreland? |

if you're a team in that position, you're better off landing him at the trade deadline for a much lower salary |

*If he would take 7x8 you have 5 more years with 3+ extra to work your roster with
Try to win the cup, deal with it later

you asked for teams with cap space
I listed 3
I'd rather have a full year of a guy, if I liked him then pay the same price for a 20 game stretch, assuming I can still be in a playoff spot then and compete with 20 other teams for him
pretty much rental price is same price as it would be to get rentals after the draft in trade assets
I mean if botts wasn't so interested in keeping vesey, we could have got that third back at the deadline and shipped him out |

go cheap with a future hall of famer, probably the best d man we have ever had
makes perfect sense
side note we ain't winning cups anytime soon, lets lower the bar to making the playoffs |

Who said I didnt want to resign him after 8 years? If we win in that time frame and it costs 13 mil instead of 11 to keep him then so be it.
Do you want to gamble on a bridge deal for olofsson?
I want to win. Signing good players at team friendly or what turn into team friendly deals is how that happens |

what does olofsson have to do with dahlin?
one is the best d prospect in 20 years, the other is a 7th rd pick
I would rather keep dahlin's rights as long as I could

I'm still willing to see where this all goes. They did just make McDermott a top-third paid coaches in the league.
They gutted the hockey ops, but I can't blame them because it objectively sucked ass. Let's see what payroll looks like this year. They may just want to get the right people in place.
I'd say a majority of their PR problems are self inflicted because Terry is just a straight up weird guy. He is not a good public speaker.
What I'm saying is: This may not be about them crying poor; they may just be trying to turn the page and they have horrible messaging |

I hope you're right...if they want redemption for all the idiocy that has happened under their watch, this season and next offer up prime opportunities to put it in the past and take a big step forward |

A 3 year bridge followed by an 8 year deal is tougher to pull off than you're making it out to be. It also gives him a quick and easy path to UFA.
Getting him to agree to an 8 year deal right now, that overpays him based on his play so far, is a tough task in itself. If they have the opportunity, they shouldn't think twice about locking him up.
