Scandella brought in to be LD1
Hutton brought in to be a 2-year starter
Mojo as you said
Blow boy 2nd pair RHD
Sheary top-6 wing
Berglund 2C
Vesey top-6
Montour top pair
Miller middle pair
Mittlestadt 2C
Tage - anything
All were brought in and played above their talent level - jcragcrumple
Almost none of these are correct.
Montour was brought in as a 2nd pairing RD. Which on most teams, he is.
Scandella was acquired along with a top 6 winger to be a middle pairing player, which he is right now on St. Louis
I don't know who blow boy is but if it's Bogosian, Murray brought him in
Miller played 16 min a night and sat half the time, so that doesn't come close to applying to this take
Sheary was a depth add, same with Vesey. Neither had ANY expectations of being top 6 wingers.
Hutton had superior numbers to Lehner before we swapped them.
I'll give you Berglund. But no one had any clue where Thompson would play

Apparently it's a small target and training doesn't help thats what I've been told.. - gerbe75pts
It is a small target especially when moving, it's not like in movies where they stop, set up, have time to aim and have a perfect shot
You miss the small target and hit a bystander then you'd complain that the bystander was shot and why were they aiming for a small area
Also hit the artery and bleed out |

Bottom line is I can easily name 14 players he brought in who disappointed and didn't meet expectations. He brought in 20+ C and D players and to this point, 2 A or B players.
Thats why the Sabres are where they are and why JB is gone
And blow boy is Beaulieu |

I think monahan is extremely overrated and gets his success from johnny hockey and he doesn't up his game in the playoffs - gerbe75pts
All have their warts. Remember, anyone who is solid at both ends and scores 30, either isn't going to be available or we're talking about 8OA, Cozens and more to acquire.

i think we are where we are because of the combination of back to back GMs with completely different views of how to build a team. Had JB been given all the picks and prospects that TMGM had i don't know what we would look like but i would tell you one thing. We would have the deepest list of D prospects in the NHL |

i think you could get a player like that for a late 1st, two older meh players and a B prospect |

When you use revisionist history to reshape what the expectations were, sure.
You said yourself the other day that Vesey was 3 points off his career average, so why is he someone who performed vastly different to his expectations in your mind?
Like who on gods green earth thought Scandella was a legit LD1?
Unfortunately JB walked into not having a single viable LD and Scandella/Pommer was a universally liked trade. Changing history to create credibility to a bad take is..... a bad take |

Yes sir. Very good post.
I am not going to pretend here and tell you that I’ve watched a ton of Flames games cause I have not.
However, from what I have seen and what I read it seems like he is a passenger.
The second teams shot down Johnny Hockey, Monahan was nowhere to be found and he actually became a liability out there due to his defensive deficiencies.
He has proven however that with an effective play maker he can score goals. |

i am curious what JB had for expectations of some of these players. Because he was bringing players who had to be slotted up a line or pairing (or even playing a position they shouldn't be) because he kept avoiding (or just couldn't) getting legit top 6 players. |

Because he was brought in to be better than his career average. JB talked about how he still had room to grow, bla bla bla. Turns out he's the mediocre player he always was.
As for Scandella, Youre confusing the argument by saying "Like who on gods green earth thought Scandella was a legit LD1?"
The point is he WAS LD1 with Risto his first year. That's the whole thing: Guys brought in who couldn't play at a higher level than they had previously.
All of those guys were asked to occupy roles they had no business being in. 20+ C and D players gets you a C and D record

There were 7 centers who scored 30 last year and we had one of them.
I think that's the type of trade you hope for with Monahan or Strome.

Here was the LD's on the roster before the Scandella trade
Gorges
McCabe
Kulikov
He acquired a top 4 LD, who today, is a top 4 LD on a playoff team
Vesey was not acquired to be a top 6 player, wasn't given top 6 minutes, top PP time. Because a GM spoke nicely about him (they all do) that changes what was to be expected?

I'm hoping we look elsewhere ..
Tyler Johnson would be perfect here put him back center can move him to wing if necessary
Probably only cost a 3rd |

And I'm not a Flames aficionado either. Perhaps he is worse than I'm voicing. He did score over 20g as a rookie before JG was drafted, playing mostly with Baerschi and Hudler, but small sample obviously. Point taken, we don't want to pay a premium for someone riding coat tails.
At this point, just looking at it more broadly. We don't have the chips to acquire a huge name, so we should expect some deficiencies.
Personally, I'd take Domi first. Think he'd be cheaper to acquire, brings some snarl unlike the rest and being that he scores 45pts or so usually, wouldn't be super pricey to resign. |

Well we have Johnny hockey lite in skinner. And he needs someone to play with badly. Unless we wanna play him with the dirty pod racer again (when he actually played well btw) |

So it's OK they didn't solve our actual problems because we didn't expect anything from them anyway?
Then why trade for them if they weren't what we needed?
The list of mediocre players Botterill brought in speaks for itself. Bunch of mediocre players got him sub-mediocre results and now he gone.
Hopefully Adams gets some real A and B talent |

You ever see a man get his poop pushed in? Cause that 2nd line would be quite a show. |
