This is a good post.
Hughes
Hieskienen
Makar
Hopefully dahlin is going to be as good or better.
Vancouver looks like a great young team , with hughes playing well at a young age.
Jim Benning? Ex sabre scout????? - Boss34
All of those three + Dahlin are really the best young 4 D men in the NHL right now.
They need to let him take the reigns now. |

It could smell worse. The Rainbow Bridge for example when the prevailing wind is blowing. Freeloading 3rd World County stench. |

For 9 million he can’t just have “on years”
He needs to be on 95% of the time. - ImThatGuy
I agree. It was what it is though. If he can hit 25 on 6 of those years and 3 of those be 30, and at least one more 40 I think we’ll all be ok with the contract. Playing him the way he played last year isn’t gonna get him there though |

I did not like his ice time going down 10% with ralph in year 2 |

they need to let dahlin open it up
hughes looks like everything dahlin was suppose to be - homiedclown
Why is it that this fan base always over rates the mediocre and sleeps on the Elite ?
Before it was Eichel, now it’s Dahlin.
How many other 19 year old d-men have finished top 15 in PPG among d-men, especially on one that didn’t qualify for a 24 team playoffs ?
Remember Dahlin didn’t turn 20 till after the conclusion of the season. Hughes is a ‘99 birthday and is 6 months older then Dahlin and played on a team that scored more goals.
6 months difference might not seem like a lot but as a teenager it definitely is. |

It’s not like ppl are “down” on him
More so impatient for us to get good again,
and just realize how important he is to that |

Said this before. Miller compliments his style really well. With an elite D talent it’s less finding a 1B or 2, and more about finding a compliment. Miller and Dahlin were rock solid for 15 games before the lockdown. |

He’s never gonna score 40 again. Might not even hit 30 again let alone 3 of the years |

I don’t know if Ralph lasts the entire year.
Which I’d be fine with. |

If he plays with Eichel it’s very doable. Skinner is the 5v5 weapon and VO is the power play weapon. Let’s start using them properly |

Honestly wouldn’t even be a stretch to say all 4 of them are top 15 d-men in the league right now.
If we are taking a snapshot of all 4 of them in their current development path I’m not arguing that Dahlin is behind those 3 currently.
I still think Dahlin has the highest ceiling though.
Quinn Hughes is a prime example of an elite talent falling in the draft due to size factor. What he’s showing in the NHL this year doesn’t surprise me at all. He did the same things at the USDT and at Michigan. I’m hoping that GM’s still haven’t learnt from that and let Rossi fall right into our lap. |

That (in part at least) had to do with playing 7 defensemen on many nights |

I just don't see him as a 1st pairing guy, playing those kind of minutes.

Maybe not, but either way defense wasn’t our problem last year. Top 10 in 5v5 defense. Lack of secondary scoring and the PK sunk this team and will continue to do so unless fixed |

A true 1D can play with anyone. A true 1D gives you the opportunity to use your second best D-man on the second pairing, so that during big games, you can have at least one of your 2 best D-men out for the entire game, or at least close enough to it. |

It's a little tougher to dissect than you're making it out to be. The defense was part of why the PK struggled. A conservative system can't mask that on the PP.

That's all fine, but you still need a good partner, capable of handling top line minutes. That's not Miller.
I love Dahlin, but he's simply not a true #1D right now.

I mean is it though? Where do shots come from on the PP? Usually the open man (think VO). Who’s guy is that. Not usually a dman, and really your defensive strategy is zone when on the PK. |
