Ffs call a time out.
- DuranDuran

He should have called it after it went 3-2. But he didn't. And will have the interim tag revoked and will ride as an assistant forever more. Bring on Gallant. Bring on Markstrom.

Thats a good call except you dont rip the C off one of your all time franchise greats. There is a way to put a positive spin on that move and turn it into a good thing. Changes they are a coming if the virus and flat cap permit deal making this off season.

Don't forget Tkachuk, Lindholm, and Hanifin. Keeping them around just extends the mediocrity. If Gaudreau is traded, there's no reason to keep Tkachuk since he'll be gone in two years anyway.

There's no way to get better in the next two years by trading Gaudreau so they may as well bring in a new GM to sell everything and start again.

They're a talented bunch, their style is just not suited for the playoffs. Gaudreau likes to slow the play down, dangle a bit and find the backdoor lifted pass. Doesn't work when there's no time on the puck. Monahan like to drift towards the slot and one-time pucks. Doesn't work when there're 2 guys cross-checking you and no penalties whislted. They just don't have that 2nd gear that needs to be turned on for the rugged play.

So instead of telling ourselves "we got cheap star players in a flat cap era that's gold let's compete" let's turn the table and weaponize those assets + the cap space created to enact a full-on rebuild, but a quick one. Those "cheap" star players are money for teams desperate to make the playoffs but who can't spend big because of flat cap or deadwood contracts.

1rst. Buffalo needs a 2nd line center badly + to get rid of some dead money. The Pegulas are cheap as f*** BUT they also wanna make the playoffs. They have a new puppet-GM. Great for us.

To BUF : Sean Monahan, David Rittich
To CGY : Kyle Okposo, Carter Hutton, Dylan Cozens, 2020 8th overall pick

BUF turns 6 million dollars of dead money (Okposo) into a stud 2nd line center. They also get a slight upgrade in net for exactly the same $. The trade depletes them of any prospect depth, but the Pegulas don't care a bit about that at the moment. They're after $$$.

2nd. New Jersey are pretty much in the same situation. They have loads of prospects, but can't wait another 2-3 years until everyone is ready. They need some help right now, especially some help at the wing to feed puck to Hughes or Hischier.

To NJD : Johnny Gaudreau
To CGY : Cory Schneider, Nolan Foote, 2020 7th overall pick

Once again, NJ turns 6 million dollars of dead money into a star winger. It costs them Nolan Foote to do so.

3rd. Hello Billy from Minny. Wanna get rid of that atrocious Victor Rask contract? You're under pressure from your boss? He sure didn't fire Paul Fenton, who wanted to go young, and put you in charge to miss the playoffs once again. You'll need money to make a splash.

To MIN : 2020 2nd round pick
To CGY : Victor Rask, PIT 2021 1rst round pick

Minnesota frees up 4 millions this year and next in exchange for that very juicy Pittsburgh's 2021 1rst rounder who could very well end up to be a lottery pick. Getting rid of Rask costs them to drop a round.

With all of their 2020 1rst round picks CGY selects Marco Rossi (7th overall), Jake Sanderson (8th overall) and William Willander (19th overall).

Their prospect depth now looks like :

Marco Rossi
Dylan Cozens
Jacob Pelletier
Nolan Foote

Juuso Valimaki
Jake Sanderson
William Willander

And they also have 2 1rst round picks in 2021, both of which could very well be lottery picks.

Hutton contracts expires at the end of 2021, Schneider's and Rask's at the end of 2022, Okposo by that time will be a LITR staple.

2022-2023 the cap rises, the Flames spend big, make the playoffs. 2023-2024 Stanley Cup.

Hunk : in case you take all of this way too seriously (you will probably be), it's all just for fun.

What do you think they should do? I know a lot of people throw hate at you but I’m genuinely curious.

The day after a tough loss is not the time to make decisions.
I think it was a very tough situation for Riitich not having played in 6 months, the coach panicked and it backfired.

As a Devils fan no way do I give up the 7th pick AND Foote for a guy that to me did no favors to his trade value with his playoff performance AND he is a UFA in 2 years and this Devils franchise does not need Taylor Hall part 2...only way this trade happens is with a contract extension and dont see that happening 2 years before contract is up

What does that even mean? All the guy did was put up MVP calibre numbers when he was healthy and then got the Devils a 1st rounder (18th overall in a deep draft), a stud HUGE Dman in Bahl, upside in Merkley and a 3rd rounder that they can flip. So, honestly, tell me how trading away Larsson for Hall was a bad thing for your franchise.

Hall was a great thing that happened to our franchise and was our first MVP and willalways remember him for that...and yes we did get great trade value back for him indeed and cant wait to see how that plays out. My only point is if we cant get him extended before trade it does no good to go through the routine of acquiring players not knowing if we can extend them. And in 2 years if Devils were to trade him him I doubt a 7th overall pick and a player of Footes value would be the return. Like I said with a contract extension I would certainly love the trade alot more!

Meh - positive spin or not, he shouldn't be wearing the C next year.

Fair enough, but there's always been rampant speculation that Johnny will want to be closer to home, and NJ is a lot closer than CGY... I think you have less to worry about there, and, frankly, they should be out of the rebuild by the time his deal is up too. Think the likelihood of him leaving is really dependent on how the team is built by the time his deal is up.

I also think the 7th overall and Foote is a little rich, IMO, it's one or the other being in the deal and a really decent kicker... and no, not Graham Gano

I agree, franchise Flame or not, Gio should not be wearing the C next year. Two monumental playoff collapses, back-to-back, at least some of that is leadership. Gio was a minus-1 with 3 assists in 10 games.

Tre may end up being punted for this as well, which wouldn't hurt my feelings. I don't think we should bring back any of the rentals. Who is the goalie next year? Game-to-game hot/cold Cam, or first half-season hot Rittich?

Meh - positive spin or not, he shouldn't be wearing the C next year.
