It was a fairly recent article, one of the main media guys I think. Kuzma, or Mac or somebody. |

From goat to hero
If Canucks had not scored to win the game, the goat of the game would have been Markstrom. I love Marky but O'Reilly's soft goal at the end of a period in which they played their asses off only to find themselves down by one, devastated the team. The team's effort at the start of the second period reflected this feeling. The real stars of the game, in my opinion, were Hughes, Pettersson and Miller, who showed leadership and drive and got the team turned around. If not for this extraordinary effort by these three players, Marky would have been the goat. Am I right? - Downbar
Naming goats or heroes in a team game goes against my grain. |

I have no problem naming the goat from last night...greatest of all time and hero is and remains Markstrom.
Pettersson looks hilarious out there falling all over the ice, a St. Louie player just lightly touches or breezes by and the kid is flopcocking all over the ice. And someone thinks he’s worth 10mil...talk about a homer.. |

I don’t mind Motte as a player. He’s the kind of guy you need in bottom 6. Works hard, a bit of crash and bang, can score an odd goal or two. Like you, I would like some bigger bodies, but if his cost stays low I’m good with signing him. If this run makes him a $1.7m player I pass. - 1970vintage

I disagree. GM’s won’t be able to help themselves. Player contracts will continue on the same path, maybe without as much increase, but escrow will will limit the actual dollars paid. Players will still want to be compensated in line with their peers. So Peter Angelo is going to get a 6 or 7 year deal (or 8 with the Blues) and the AAV is going to be Doughty like. - 1970vintage

I don’t think the Oilers are crippled by the cap anymore than the Canucks are, they’ve arguably got two of the best players in the league playing for them so they’re going to take up 20 million between them, the rest of their lineup it’s just a bunch of journeyman players that’s their issue.
Agree on Toronto though, they’ve got three 10 plus million dollar forwards, Edmonton only has one. - Pacificgem
10m for 6 players isn’t much for the Oilers. |

You mean percentage of the salary cap? Why can’t they afford that? Also, he is a pending UFA, you think there isn’t one GM out there that would be willing to give him $77m over 7 years? |

He uses “actual” media tweets etc to make his case... I found it funny that they were at odds about a player that wasn’t even available at 10. |

The kid has good skill and compete level, but ya, he tends to look like Bambi on ice.
10 million, did someone really suggest that? |

Find the cap to pay for him. As for another team signing him they won’t have to go that high. Who has the cap & would he sign there?

There is always a way. No team has cap problems. The Ducks, for instance could easily fit him in given Kesler, Backes likely finish out their careers on IR. |

Speaking of trust with young guys, I noticed my boi
BigTuna-Shotgun Jake the snake Virtanen (?too much) out there defending the 1 goal lead late in the 3rd period.
I never lost the faith in him and he had a great game last night.
It only took a couple warm up games to get going
I'm hoping this allows him to stay in the top 6 going forward.
