It would seem that the Hawks and the Leafs would be ideal trade partners. TOR is in win now mode and has glaring deficiencies at defense. Hawks could use upgrades at forward, with lots of young D in the pipeline.
I’d say they’d have no interest in any of the Hawk young D, but would probably be interested in any of the Hawks vets.
Would the Leafs take 2 of deHaan, Murphy, Maatta or Koekkoek, with similar cap $ in forward(s) coming back to CHI?
And I’d prefer to have Duncan retire a Blackhawk, but if Keith sees no future here, would he waive to go to TOR for another run at the SC?
What would the Hawks get back for a package of Murphy/Maatta or Keith/deHaan? |

Our defense would be a bigger disaster than it already is with either of those combinations.

Zach Hyman is a swell guy. Let's target him. |

Make it Strome and the Oilers might do it.
Oilers add a 2nd and I would do it. - Elbows15
Nah, for as much criticism as Strome takes, I think he's a lot better than Puljujarvi - more than a 2nd round pick difference.

Salary would definitely need to come back to Chicago so forwards like Johnsson, Kapanen, and Kerfoot come to mind as they were in trade rumors during the TDL and likely still are.
Not sure how substantiated these rumors are but have read elsewhere that maybe their Nylander or even Marner could be shipped out to alleviate their pending cap doom while also shoring up their blueline.
I could see Bowman aiming for Nylander to unite the brothers and try to get Alex jump started. Not saying I advocate this but just think Bowman may kick the tires on this if they can unload 1-2 of their veteran D contracts. |

You have 7 spots on the NHL roster.
I count 9 That are likely at one of those 7 spots: Boqvist, Carlsson, deHaan, Keith, Koekkoek, Maatta, Michell, Murphy & Seabrook. And that doesn’t include 3 that are a year away: Beaudin, Krys & Regula. And I’m not even counting Gilbert.
Murphy gets you a quality forward back. So does Keith. |

I'm sure we can't take all of these comments at face value and I'd like to hear follow up comments from Toews, but I thought these were interesting:
Colliton: "After a series, you look at some of the things you did, and you walk it back and wonder what you could've done different."
Discusses not calling timeout for O-zone faceoff late in Game 3. Says Toews was too gassed for a single timeout to get him rested enough.
And on Quenneville: "Tazer talked about it a lot during the year that he liked playing with Quenneville."
Colliton going out of his way to praise Highmore effusively right now.
"He doesn't get 25 shifts a game, but the shifts he does get, he knows exactly what to do."

I think we should all pump the brakes on the Maatta/de Haan comparisons right now. I give Maatta props. He stepped up his game in the playoffs. You have to keep in mind that de Haan was just coming off of major surgery and was just supposed to be coming back. He showed very well for the team when Keith was out. He's not untouchable, but he brings stability to the backend. - Chunk
This would be my thoughts as well. |

He really said that? I can't imagine a scenario where Toews doesn't want to be on the ice. Did JC say why he didn't call the timeout anyways?

If Montreal wins, don’t the Hawks move up a spot in the draft?
That spot could make all of the difference between being a Cup contender in two or three years and being an also-ran.
Well...it could.... |

I don't think Keith brings back much except somebody trying to dump $5m salary. I don't care how many spots Keith and Murphy are still our two best and they're no better than second pairing. |

Bowman and Colliton having their year-end presser now:
@BenPopeCST
Bowman: "We're going to have a similar group back next year. Not the same group, we're going to have some new faces." Implies the new faces will mostly be prospects/AHL promotions, though. - Tyler Cameron
Bowman said he doesn't expect Chicago to make many changes this offseason after it reached the playoffs for the first time since 2017. Crawford is the Blackhawks' only pending unrestricted free agent. Potential restricted free agents include forwards Ryan Strome, Drake Caggiula and Dominik Kubalik; defenseman Slater Koekkoek; and goalie Malcolm Subban.
Isn't this the same post season BS we have heard for the last 5 years? But the reality there can't be anybig changes not with the "core" contracts and the damn cap.
My guess crow is back...2 year deal around 4 per...they can't do that better then that on the goalie UFA market.
