Ok so using the 15th for Kapanen is a bit underwhelming, but if we’re being realistic, guys like Domi were probably never in the cards. Sounds like Toronto isn’t taking cap back, and I’m not a huge fan of putting ourselves in a position where we’re over the cap, so I’m a bit skeptical here. JR has put himself in bad positions before and doesn’t have the best track record of bailing himself out.

Thats Liljegren. I'd love to get him but Lindgren I think is a disappointment so far. 23 so not really a prospect anymore.

Every post you make gets worse and worse. I’m sure he’s no stud but if lindgren is a disappointment already at least hallander hasn’t proven that yet.

Kinda sorta. The Pens currently have a little over $12M free. What we don't know is what RFAs they will re-sign and for how much. Plus, you can already knock that down to $11M considering DeSmith will be back up.

Murray, Rod, McCann, Simon, Lafferty. They obviously don't take up $11M lol, but that could wind up eating up a good $7/$8ish M.

Very true, but i think we have to go after the big name D-man first, then worry about re-signing the others.

Also, there is a chance that Murray doesn't return at all either, which is another 3.75.

This is the full deal, source confirms as well. Leafs didn't have a first round pick (Marleau deal with Carolina). Now they've got one.

Pens get the best player in the trade....but....I still dont like it.

Unless he has a trade with Montreal for Domi backing onto this, it is really bad.

This goes back to the owners now. There has to be some point they step in. It’s like he is purposefully destroying the team one move at a time. Thankfully Sid and geno have nmc otherwise he would prob trade them.

Guess I need to find something else to watch now on draft day...sheesh

Dont like the trade.

Rutherford traded an overvalued 1st round pick, as I said yesterday, that is a good strategy. Getting a 24 year old is a year or two old than what wouldve been ideal, but the basis of it still makes sense.

What I dont like is that he didnt wait at all to guage the value of the pick. 8 teams in the league cannot trade right now. Why make a trade when only a fraction of the teams can trade? Kapanen wasnt going anywhere.

Kapanen is a fine player, best player in the deal. Maybe that 1st pick hits, maybe it is a total bust. We wont know for a while.

But I still dont like the overall premise of the deal. Hard to explain why. I feel we could've done better. We didnt clear cap space and I would imagine this ends McCann's time here, unless they move him to center which doesnt sound like it based on Rutherford's interview last week. Unless they plan on trading Horny, which i would be 100% on board with then.
