there's certainly people a lot harsher about Tony D than I am - jimbro83
When people claim it's all political I like to point out Jaccob Slavin.
He's becoming a more prominent NHL defendant, but he's also a hardcore right-wing Christian and he's unapologetic about it. He and his wife have publicly stated beliefs on homosexuality, abortion, etc. and yet they aren't talked about the same way Tony is.
Part of that is obviously market, but the other part is the way he expresses those opinions. If Slavin has something about that to say, it's usually through the media. When the far left folks call him out on it on Twitter or Instagram or whatever, he doesn't engage them. Just ignores it.
It's not like DeAngelo is the only Trump supporter in the NHL. He's just the only one being a wienerhead about it publicly. |

yep
if you compare it to the NFL, if the team with the 16th overall pick in the NFL wanted to trade up to first overall, it would cost the 16th, some second rounders, probably two significant roster players and most definitely the following season's #1 pick as well
just following that formula really, except that I want Caufield and Romanov
I also want to get back at Montreal for being entitled to all French Canadian players up until 1970 |

Yeah unless you get the 3rd overall and the 5th overall AND something else nice, you don't trade that pick.
Lafreniere is Tavares. |

absolutely and they are going to
there is a little bit of chatter from the Canadian sports guys about how much the Habs would love a new French Canadian superstar, the Rangers don't need a left wing and Kotkainiemi is perfect to pair with Kakko
that's the chatter coming from Canada

It's because they can't stomach that the Rangers are going to pick 1st and take their prize Canadian. |

There are folks in Montreal who still think they should get first dibs on any Quebecois players. |

I didn't say his beliefs are toxic, I said his support of those beliefs makes him somewhat toxic, the reference being to how he is perceived and viewed and how team management may view him. In addition, earlier in the blog I wrote: "DeAngelo obviously has the right to believe what he wants, however, when the expression of his beliefs become or are viewed as becoming a problem, that's what it impacts the team and management."
I was attempting to be balanced in the column and didn't once state that he didn't have a right to those views. But his proclamnatins of those views has not always been well received or expressed well, which has caused issues. - airjan23
Good on you for being balanced, Jan. It is a professional, high-road approach. But when someone on my team, who kids look up to, expresses support for racist, sexist, dangerous ideologies, it is toxic. It just is. |

Even if he could you’re infusing the team with one or both of Miller and Lundkvist on the back end and Laf on the wing. Fox enters his second year and is already better than Tony D will ever be on the defensive and IQ end and will in all likelihood become at least as good in the offensive zone (he’s close already). Tony is redundant and expensive - picklerick
