I wonder if players have clauses in their contracts pertaining social media, like what type of content they can post, what groups they're part of, etc.

Of course not, but the team should at least provide guidance on the matter. Make sure they understand that what they do on social media will be scrutinized by the media. Take Poehling, for example. He's allowed to have whatever political affiliations he chooses. But as a hockey player part of a big organization, maybe keep it to yourself if you don't want that sort of attention.

It sucks, because otherwise you should be able to voice your opinions, but do you want people to talk about you because of the way you play or because of what you liked on Twitter...not easy, but that's what I don't feel like management guides the young guys for this stuff.
