good point for the PP, it's been so horrible I'm not sure why they haven't explored other options - Pat1993
but according to this he did get 118 minutes of PP during the regular season...

yes, that's half what some others have. he's 83rd in the league for PP TOI.
83rd.
but yet, 36th for points, tied with..... Sidney Crosby!
ok ok, Crosby only played 41 games |

Apparently Sakic had a huge hard on for Danault at the deadline
https://www.milehighhocke...-the-trade-deadline-rumor - obie
interesting.
did you read all of it?
Phillip Danault out of Montreal. Danault is a 26-year old centerman who has quietly become one of the best defensive centers in the NHL. On the offensive side, he is a very good playmaker who forechecks hard and would be able to fill in while Nazem Kadri is out of the lineup. |

Has the hockey iq of a newt and can't pass the puck to save his life. Great PK guy, love the speed and he can play with some tenacity every now and then. Can't pay that much for a 3rd line specialty player when you have no cap room. - AdamFrench
ok, so an overpaid Lekohnen, I see |

Yea he can fill in the top 6, if he's a regular, your team sucks... and now he's already not really wanting the 3rd line C role?
Danault: I don't want to strickly be a defensive C

let say Danault accepts his role on the 3rd, let say he signs for 5x5, or even 5x6.
he would be worth every penny.
an excellent defensive center, great on FO, would can replace on the top6 in case of injuries, who can get his share of points as we saw the past 2 years...
THAT'S depth down the middle.
Domi can't win FO or play defense. as for his grit or being a playoffs beast, we all saw that the past few weeks.
will be interesting to watch things unfold - fidopro
I would love for him to saty too, plus he a good back up if one of the first 2 gets hurt |

you might be on to something, however looking at other habs forwards he's amongst the highest in PP time on the team...
btw I like Danault, and I hope we can keep him loll |

16th in the league for points at 5x5, while playing againts the other team best line. +18
I really don't know what's not to like. especially in a 3rd line role.
you'll get over it |

they could get a very good winger for him, no doubt. Cs come at a premium.

there's not much difference in TOI between top6 and 3rd line. they often play the same amount of minutes at 5x5. the difference is in special units.
pretty sure a nice contract would allow him to accept his role a lot easier. plus playing at home, not negligeable.

Danault will play 3rd C, get 45ish points being paid around 4.5M per season and he'll like it. |

So if we pay him $8.8m a year 8 years he'll get 88 points a year? This is why I'm not involved in contract negotiations, those little secrets I'd have never thought of |
