For the hawks to retain drakes rights they would have to offer 1.650,000
Not to say they couldn’t agree to a deal before that decision has to be made - Abadseed
Let Caggiula walk then. He shouldn't make more than his current salary of $1.5M due to injury concerns.
I could see Koekkoek getting a slight bump in pay to the $1M mark or a little more. He at least showed some improvement.
Kubalik, IMO, shouldn't make more than $3.5M on a short bridge deal. While I still think he has potential to build off his strong rookie year, he needs to prove he wasn't a one-hit wonder. |

This is what frustrated me so much during games against Vegas. Every time they gained possession, they would slow the play down to wait for forwards to get open way up ice, instead of making quick short passes to get it up ice...I hope this gets quicker as they learn to break out more effectively, although this has never been the hawks MO. They always use that stretch pass, which also infuriates me sometimes... - ToewsdNKanefusd
Slowing things down in the zone is fine during line changes or if the other team built up momentum so you want to throw off their mojo a bit.
All other times, one quick pass out or just skate it out yourself.
The latter is where a more mobile defense will be needed so fresher legs on strong skaters like Boqvist, Beaudin, Carlsson, Krys, Kalynuk, Regula, etc. will be key.
And the stretch pass should be used sparingly, not as a main weapon. More times than not the Hawks fail to connect or it gets easily converted into a turnover by the opposition. |

Filip Hollander was Pits 2nd rounder in 2018. Looks like a solid offensive forward prospect.
That is a lot to give up for Kap....nice work Pitt. - bhawks2241
Hollander looks like a bottom 6 guy to me. He has never put up big offensive numbers at any level.
a 1st for Kapanen? Rutherford got taken to the woodshed on that deal. |

I do get that they sometimes need to slow the play down, it just seems like the hawks were doing it more often than not, especially during the Vegas series. But, I think that may have to do with what you described as having to think of what to do next, rather than just reacting. Hopefully they can improve and react rather than over think every play. |

Great breakdown.
The bolded part is key. Win the puck back, which can be done a variety of ways, and quickly move it out of the zone to start the rush.
This requires the forwards to provide support and skate with purpose to get open but also instinct and trust to know where all of your teammates are so everyone can act insitinctly rather than slow things down and overthink.
The more the transition game slows down, the more time the opponent has to set up and counter attack to neutralize any effort to move the puck past the center line.
This failure on the Blackhawks has made it so easy to defend against them. - AEL_Fox
You need D-men who can get to the puck quickly and move it. The Hawks don't. Definitely need better puck support but the Hawks take too long to get to the puck and then make a decision with it. |

Looks like Pittsburgh is all in on trying to win one more time with Crosby on the team. Maybe they should have just went into rebuild now. Can they get back to the top again? My opinion is no.

And this is what the hawks have a ton of in their prospect pipeline. So I think the Hawks are on the right track to getting there. It is just a matter of when these guys start maturing and able to play in the NHL.

Yes, definitely that is an issue, too, that needs to be addressed, i.e. taking too long to get to the puck and knowing what the options are once they have possession.
This is where compete level, hockey IQ, and trust need to be amped up a hundred fold. |

So pretty much he is stating that he is coming back to the hawks no matter what they offer...as long as he is the starter.

Im going a different way. what is Dylan strome worth to a team in need of centers.
I would keep SAAD and trade at the deadline if we are not good. |

What is your take on Boqvist? In my view, he needs to get stronger and recognize how the opposition is trying to enter the zone quicker. I also think that once he gets a better handle on the speed and recognition parts he will be a much better offensive contributor. When he first started in London, it took him a while to get acclimated. Once he did his production increased quickly. |

The only team that I can think of that is close to winning a cup that needs a starting goalie to put them over the top would be Colorado, would he want to go there? I guess there is also vancouver if they are not sold on Markstrom being their starter.
I just can't see Crawford at this stage in his life and career wanting to move to another city. He has started a life in Chicago, his girlfriend is from here, and he has spent his whole career here. I think he will sign with the Hawks for whatever they offer, as long as it is reasonable. |

Keeping a goalie that is weak on breakaways and shoot outs and slow on lateral movement and threw his team under the bus when he got pouty was a mistake? - GPHawksfan
That's why Vegas continues to start him over a healthy Fleury

Time is all Boqvist needs. He just turned 20. I thought his play was okay. Made one reallly glaring mistake. His reaction to it told me all I need to know about his desire. Everyone jumped on him for the Tuch goal and he did misplay it, BUT Tuch came off the bench and was in full flight. That is a tough play for any d-man. Where were the forwards, tho?
Yes, I agree he needs to get stronger and that will come. I have no qualms with him taking care of his defensive responsibilities before he shows his offense. He does a good job of leveraging himself along the walls for his size.

I know. I was just making a funny. I would add Calgary, and Carolina to that list (maybe squeeze Toronto and EDM in there as well).
He does seem content to stay in CHI as long as they assumingly give him the net. If I'm Stan, I don't budge off of 1 year. |
