Hallander sounds iike an ultra competitive player from accounts I am reading. Hey, I heard a certain team needs more players like that. - AEL_Fox
Maybe but I see him topping out as bottom 6 player. Nothing wrong with that to me. My comment was in response to him being an offensive type player where nothing in his previous experience really shows him as a top flight offensive type player.

The Hawks could not (and cannot) afford Lehner. Lehner is not going to make this team a contender - as seen by this year. Throwing money at him is a mistake for where this team is right now, IMO. They need to build everyone up and while I don't think its egregious, Lehner occasionally blaming his teammates is not going to help a team in this position. |

Just based that on his scouting report. His numbers don't seem to indicate he has higher end offense.
Forgot Kapanen was a Pitt draft pick. Sent him over as part of the Kessel deal. Good asset management by Pitt

Hollander looks like a bottom 6 guy to me. He has never put up big offensive numbers at any level.
a 1st for Kapanen? Rutherford got taken to the woodshed on that deal. - Elbows15
Jimbo is in the Hockey Hall of Fame and thats what he told Stanbo when he unloaded Rob Scuderi for Trevor Daly on him - "Trust me, I know a player when I see one. Q will love this guy. And he knows I'm going to be in the Hall with him one day". |

I know. I was just making a funny. I would add Calgary, and Carolina to that list (maybe squeeze Toronto and EDM in there as well).
He does seem content to stay in CHI as long as they assumingly give him the net. If I'm Stan, I don't budge off of 1 year. - Chunk
I would be OK with 2 years, to give the Hawks some time to groom the next starter. Give's them certainty with their starter for the next 2 years so that they can work on who will be his replacement.

You need D-men who can get to the puck quickly and move it. The Hawks don't. Definitely need better puck support but the Hawks take too long to get to the puck and then make a decision with it. - Elbows15
Completely agree, some dmen are way to slow getting to the puck and actually controlling the puck on their blade. Some have so much trouble just making a decision on where and when to pass it, and i think this is a problem many times created by the forwards.

Thanks for all the info Wiz. I'm really liking what I am seeing and reading about Holloway. - Chunk
Yeah, just don't too enamored, as I was told awhile back he might be gone before the hawks picked at slot nine, so all it takes is ONE team that has a player high on their list to elevate a guy like this who as far as I am concerned has terrific upside.
Tere are four Euros who might surprise and go earlier too, but, not if I am picking...
I was surprised that Pittsburgh and Toronto were "allowed" to trade...I thought someone here said there was a wait period, but I guess not.

Apparently Rutherford isn't perfect either (from the Pens blog):
First thought about the trade. I don’t like it. I have absolutely no issue with the Penguins trading #15 overall. I have an issue using it here. This is not great value and Rutherford’s asset management continues to be substandard. I also don’t like the idea of Rutherford making deals with a GM like Kyle Dubas. It’s a bad fit. Rutherford is better served making deals with GM’s he has worked with or other old school guys like himself.
I find it very funny that one of the contentions is the person JR is trading with. |

Not sure if Boquist regressed, throwing a 19y.o. into a playoff series against a team like the Knights is a tall task. Definitely a learning experience for him. I think that the Hawks have put the reins on him more than VAN or COL did with Makar and Hughes. Neither of those 2 are great in their own ends at this point, but they are given freer reins to create on offense. - TheTrob
Agreed. And let's see how Makar from Vancouver performs this week against the same Vegas team. Maybe he also 'regresses' like Boquist when facing the potential 2020 Cup winners.

Yeah there questions isn't as much the upside of Filip Hållander whom the Penguins convinced to sign an extension, as much as it is, is there so much upside of Kapanen...you trade a first in a GOOD DRAFT CLASS in the top 15 to Toronto, and believe me, Hallander has the chops to skate and become a NHL scorer, maybe not a top one, but his feet are really good and his work ethic too.
Maybe I am missing it but has Kapanen taken and big steps to be an all around scorer, because I haven';t pay attention enough to see them when I see him in Leaf games...
And Pittsburgh solved a Cap issue for the leafs, so they should have been paid more, imo.
Remember, I rotes these BEFORE they got selected in their draft years...
I PUT the links to Kapanen and Hallander but the Buzz made my post white,,,three times!
so go look them up yourself if you need a glimpse and Hallander or Kapanen |

This where I'm leaning towards as well. Two years at a reasonable cap hit less than his current salary.
Crawford can be the starter while whoever the backup candidates are continues to develop at an appropriate pace.
Delia, Lankinen, even Tomkins. Doubt Subban comes back.
Then if health degrades over time, play Crawford less and increase playing time for the above backups or anyone new that might be brought into the stable. |

Makar is generally holding his own defensively (with some mistakes - as to be expected of any d-man). Hughes looked a little shakier in game 1, but I'm really interested to see how he responds tonight. |

So pretty much he is stating that he is coming back to the hawks no matter what they offer...as long as he is the starter. - ToewsdNKanefusd
Sounds like it, but then Stan gets to talking and finds out Corey thinks $4m is a huge pay cut (and wants to pay him $3)? You never know till it's done. On the surface, this should go quickly so Stan can check the box and move on. |

Makar is a tremendous stick and power skater ands simply bears down to the net, and never thinks there is a moment he needs to check himself and give the puck up by pass.
Hughes is a super solid skater and thinker withbthe puck and he can pull a dazzle to shoot move, he tries to open things and get the puck to the teammate to shoot most times.
Both have shown that although GREAT FEET and good sticks DO help smaller stocky new age defenders, they still can get turned inside out in the big fast Cup attack waves.

I just watched his interview on the website. Indeed, I think as long as they don't insult him and state that he will be starter, he is as good as signed. Subban will be interesting to watch. He beat out Delia to be the backup, so maybe he has a chance, but overall it doesn't seem like they are enamored with him. Maybe one or two of the goalie prospects gets shipped out?
Is Nalimov still on this side of the pond (thought he was on the Icehogs for a while), or did he go back to Russia? |

Pitt is in the same boat as the Hawks in terms of wanting to take another run at the Cup with Crosby so a ready-to-go Kapanen works better for them than the #15 pick who is probably a couple years away from contributing.

@Tramyers_NHL
Synopsis quote from Corey Crawford, who's prioritizing playing time over $: "I mean, that’s the main thing is to win a championship, to play, to be the main guy and play a lot. Salary, that can be discussed. That’s something that is not as important at this time." - AEL_Fox
That's good to hear but the devil is in the details - the fans read that and think it means he will play for $2M/AAV whereas CC probably meant he would play for less than his current $6M/AAV. There's quite a bit of separation there.
