I lived in Tampa for 11 years and the lightning super fans hated Yzerman at first because he was willing to dump Conacher, and then MSL, and then Drouin. He has no problem getting rid of guys. - Feds91Stammer

I wouldn't bring him back. But I think he will be back. I saw nothing special from him. He's a big body. That's it. I hope I'm wrong. - gergeswillems
Abby 2.0 for me. Watching Hedman skate, that’s a big boy! He can move and use his stick to close gaps. Impressive |

I was hoping Erne would improve last season. If anything to have a Bert Ehn Erne line. Ehn sucks too. Oh well. Can you tell me how to get... how to get to Sesame Street? |

It’s not that great. I heard Elmo picked up a 13 yr old boy on Craigslist. The street is falling apart |

I hate this deal. I want to weaponize cap space to add assets. Not overpay for a marginal middle 6 winger. You can find plenty of guys that could fill Fabbri's stop-gap role for far less money. Sorry. I love Yzerman, but this deal stinks. |

It's 2 years. Who cares? Fabbri can score 20 goals. Wings have a boat load of cap space. Are you expecting Yzerman to increase the payroll by $25 million this off season? Are we competing for a Cup next season? Great! It's 2008 again!
Which players do you have in mind exactly? Ones who can replace Fabbri for half the money? Yzerman still has to put a team on the ice. Would you rather him ice a team full of beer leaguers? It's close to that now. He still has to hit the Cap floor. Yzerman re-signed his own player! Blasphemy! Fabbri is 24 years old! Boy I sure do miss waiver wire pickup Jacob De La Rose. I wonder how he's doing?
Let's weaponize our cap space and trade for Marner! Let's dupe other teams GMs into forking over their best young players! Maybe Yzerman can brainwash Dubas! Only other teams can re-sign their RFA's. Not Yzerman though. He's not weaponizing his cap space! |

Could you imagine, Marner? In my wildest dreams. Unfortunately TOR needs a thoroughbred and we don’t have anything in the stable yet |

Marner would be a great addition! Too bad it's a pipe dream. I don't understand the problem with re-signing your own player for 2 years? Like is Yzerman signing Pietrangelo, Krug and Hall this off season?
I didn't know Cap space was such an issue? Yzerman better trade the Zetterberg zombie contract! 6 more million in cap space! You know. To make room for Marner! 😉 It's all about weaponizing the Cap space. |

Just saying there are teams looking to shed cap hits. In some cases, these are guys who can still serve as a stop-gap, but if it nets an extra asset then that's just good use of cap space. If the Oilers offer a nice pick or prospect to dump James Neal then I'd rather have James Neal score 20 goals than Fabbri. Like how Carolina added Terovainen for free or got an extra 1st for Marleau. It's a garbage roster whether you have Fabbri for 2 years or James Neal. But the extra picks/prospects can be used to move up in a draft or to acquire a player of need. We just sold AA for a couple of picks. When the time is right I'd like to be on the other end of deals like that...trading picks for a young player. That might be how we eventually address the goaltending problem.

And I have no problem with Yzerman doing that. He's not going to say "I re-signed Fabbri. I'm done." I've been advocating Tyler Johnson to be traded here for months now because Tampa has to cut salary so they can afford re-signing Sergachev and Cirelli. I don't see it costing much.
Yzerman is in a good spot right now. He has tons of cap space. He's doesn't have an internal Cap like other teams do. He's not limited. But I also don't want to collect more garbage contracts when we're still waiting for Dekeyser, Nielsen and Abdelkader to go away.
I'm all for stock piling assets. But I also don't want this team to be a laughingstock for another 4 years. Yzerman likely has quite a few irons in the fire. If he could make 5 more Fabbri like trades then I'd be ecstatic. Turning a 4th line plug in JDL into a 20 goal scorer Robby Fabbri? Yep. I'll take that. |

So would you take the Isles Andew Ladd if they threw in Oliver Walstrom? for a 6th? Ladd has 3 more years at $5.5M Isles have no 1st or 2nd, throw in Bode Wilde too?Hell if Bode goes too' I would give em a low 2nd!
Note:
They tried to deal Ladd at the TDL to MN Wild for Parise.....but could't make the $$$$work out. Must have had picks go with him........ |

3 years of Ladd to get Wahlstrom for free? Where do I sign. Can Yzerman sign Fabbri...AND...do a deal like this? Sure. But I'd vote for 2 or 3 deals like this. Give me a line of Ladd-Turris-Neal. You do this before guys like Seider, Zadina, etc...need to get paid. |

Examples of guys who can produce like Fabbri for less money? Let's see...Fabbri had 15 goals and 32 points. How about Tyler Ennis who signed for just $800k and had 16 goals and 37 points. He'll get a raise from $800k but not $3M x 2 years. Florida signed Acciari as a UFA for $1.6M x 3 years and he just scored 20 goals for them. So there are middle 6 guys that are typically less than $3M who can put up 30-40 points. But whatever. It's an overpayment in my opinion. But still lots of cap space for Yzerman to exploit. |
|

1. It's not my money being thrown around.
and
2. The wings have plenty of cap space.
but
I'm a little surprised this is the first deal to get done because it is an over-payment considering he was RFA, and this deal makes him UFA in 2 years according to CapFriendly. Mantha is a stud and should get his 8x8, but the contract i'm most curious about is Bert. I wonder if Yzerman is going to set the bar a little higher in an attempt to pinch other teams with their own kids to sign. |

Ennis is still collecting from his Minnesota buy-out and Acciari signed before he netted 20.. these are both terrible comparisons. |

Whats your point here? I gave a couple quick examples of recent UFA's that were cheap, and put up 30-40 points. Every summer there are a new crop to choose from.
P.S. I love when other teams buyout a player. They are generally willing to sign for dirt cheap and have a chip on their shoulder. Exactly the kind of guys to round out a losing roster so that cap space can be used to hopefully land a Terovainen or an extra 1st. |

Fabbri had 31 points in 52 games this year for Detroit. Acciari had scored 31 points in his entire career (180 games) when he signed his current deal, at age 27. He’s also never had more than 8 assists in a season and only got to 20 goals this year by doubling his career shooting percentage. At age 28.
I don’t want to bag on Acciari too hard since I actually think he's a decent player with a decent contract, but all signs suggest he’s a defensive forward who had a flukey year offensively.
He’s a bad example of a “cheap player who can score 30-40 points” (I wouldn’t be surprised if he never tops 25 again) and a bad contract comparable for Fabbri, considering when he signed his best season was only 14 points, and he only got to 30-40 point pace territory this year by basically tripling his career scoring rates — and Fabbri was still 50% more offensively productive per game this season as a Red Wing than Acciari was with Florida.
Similar deal with Ennis, who I think is also a good defensive forward who had a nice but very unexpected season offensively. Before he signed with Ottawa at the beginning of this season he had just 53 points 175 games over the past three years. I think if any GMs had expected him to be a “30-40 point player” this season there’s no way he would have signed for just $800k.
I agree with you that Fabbri is very replaceable and there are usually a handful of UFAs available every offseason that you can plug into a lineup and get similar results. But unless you get really lucky, $2.5 - $3 million is generally what they cost. Fabbri doesn’t have to fluke into 20 goals and 30-40 points like Acciari or Ennis. He has scored at or above that rate in all three NHL seasons where he’s played at least 50 games. |

His closest comp is Kreider who just signed 7x6.5m and that was all UFA years they paid for. Something like 6x6 for mantha would be proper value. |
