Jump in, let's go
Lay back, enjoy the show
Everybody gets high, everybody gets low,
These are the days when anything goes

If G doesn’t step up, the trade G parade will be in full swing this summer.

Ugly game. Didn't like the lines that AV used.

Back read not worth the effort today.

Forwards Couturier, Konecny and Giroux must produce points and play defense well within the Flyers system. Depth scoring has been a strength all season and can’t stop now.

Watching for it in game 2.

Let’s go Flyers! (I love that when I type “let’s,” my tablet immediately suggests “go Flyers.” Makes me smile.)

Well, they did draft Kapanen (after Sanheim...does Hexy gets crushed for that, too?) so I guess he is going to play for them eventually.

Edit:

Details for Penguins:
RW Kasperi Kapanen
D Jesper Lindgren
LW Pontus Aberg

Maples Leafs getting:
2020 Rd 1 pick (15 overall)
LW Evan Rodrigues
C Filip Hallander
D David Warsofsky

- jmatchett383

isnt Rodrigues a RFA and makes like 2mm already? I assume they just let him walk as otherwise not much cap savings.

So did 24 other teams, including Washington and Chicago won won the Cup after this draft.

Debrincat went 39th overall, meaning multiple teams passed on him including multiple teams that have since wont he Cup (St. Louis twice, Washinton)

Hischier and Patrick were the consensus 1 and 2 picks by the vast majority of the hockey world

Yeah, not great deals.

Hexy also signed Phillippe Myers who NO OTHER TEAM WANTED TO DRAFT, which makes me think he must be pretty good at idetifying talent.

The difference is the Hawks and Caps were already perennial contenders....by 2014...the Hawks already had 2 cups about to add a 3rd, the Flyers were wallowing in mediocrity. The Flyers had not had a legitimate sniper since Gagne. He was four years removed from the Flyers by time this draft happened.

Yes, but you desperately needed offense at this time. And the teams that drafted Pastrnak and DeBrincat were the class of the league at those times....they combined for 4 of the last 6 cups...funny how those organizations made those picks but we and others didn't...they were winning and the rich got richer.

The one year I wished Hextall went defense...he goes with Patrick. Imagine Provy with Makar or Hesikanen. Gut punch.

For every nice move with Hextall was a huge swing and a miss. This is just my opinion.

I would bring JVR in and try to stack a line to get some people going. Maybe

I agree the only way you get something out of JVR is in the top 6.

He simply can not create offense on his own. He is a garbage man, a player who needs someone to get the puck to a space where he can ram it in.

For the love of god, take Bee away from the Hayes line and split up Ghost and Braun.

Also when grant, nak, laughton and thompson are within a few minutes top playing time of giroux, couterier, jake, hayes (despite not playing well)
time to question the coaches.

I think everyone needs to calm down and take the emotion out of it. We lost 5-0 to Montreal too, it’s one game. Yeah our first line guys need to produce but AV is a great coach and they’ll make adjustments to their game-plan.
- Dave21Brown

I don't think it's emotion. They were able to beat Montreal without their best players producing well due to the fact that Montreal was really a mediocre team. That's not the case with the Isles and even more so with the teams they'll have to face if they can win this series. It's about the big picture. There are no adjustments that a coach can make to overcome a team's top players not playing like top players.

They don't need to qualify him if they outright sign him, if they give him market value. But he's not much of a needle mover, so they could just let him walk.

I'm down with this. JVR gets 2 guys who can get him the puck and you get deeper down the middle.

I'd do Pitlick-Grant-NAK as my 4th line. All due respect to Thompson, he's just not giving you much right now.

That was disappointing. The Islanders keep that 5 man trapezoid in all three zones. It’s extremely annoying! It must take a lot of discipline to keep that shape all the time like that.

How do you beat that? There has to be a strategy for it. I hope AV knows one.

The easiest way would be the clog up the neutral zone and counter attack to create odd-man situations. Easier said than done, though.

Dont they have to sign him at his qualifying offer? Or can they go lower? Depending what he possibly signs for not much cap savings is all i am saying.

Honestly I’m ok with Grant or Thompson getting a night off. Neither have been too impressive.

The coach double shifted Thompson down the stretch in the 3rd period of game 6 against the Habs.

They need to qualify him to retain his rights, at which point he can accept or decline. But they can sign him to any contract they want as long as they both agree before that. For instance, he may prefer a $1.3M one-way contract over a $2M two-way contract.

Yes he did. Right now, I'm more concerned with getting a lead than protecting it. I know one has to follow the other, but I feel there are players who could protect the lead adequately while improving the ability to get the lead.

Just my opinion.

Ghost was absolutely putrid in his own end once again. Turnover after turnover. It's hard to watch. If he isn't going to produce anything at all offensively then replace him with hagg. I can't stand Ghost and his elementary school defensive abilities.
